I believe Romero created the definitive, horrifying, flesh eating lore of zombiedom. Just about everything zombie goes back to his concept. The old voodoo kind didn't have the staying power. There are rare exceptions (Return of the Living Dead, The Walking Dead), but they have been, for a long time now, a dime a dozen in movies and games. So much so, I'm afraid it's become the ultimate horror/action game crutch. Make a game. A game with zombies. BAM. 90% done. The checklist is naturally born.

Hordes of zombies, check. Guns, check. Machetes, check. Chainsaws, check. Splatter, check. I'm bored.

Yes, all those things go together with zombies like peanut butter and jelly, but I'm tired of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. I don't care if you add a new gimmick or element, comedy, or lower the weapon count to call it 'survival horror'. Just.... retire them. For awhile atleast. There's a big fat encyclopedia of horror lore out there to experiment with. Some are trying, but zombies are still plastered all over the place.

tl;dr.. I'm sick of zombies. And my favorite horror movie to this day is still Dawn of the Dead '78. Imagine that.

I'm not entirely bored of them, but it'd be nice to see some new concepts for zombie games.

I've never been much of a zombie fan, but these days when I see something with zombies I'm more likely to go "Meh" and move on. Some new twist would be cool.

Well, we've had a couple instances with storytelling, and humanity as center focus, and that's good. But if it's a trend, I'd like it to go elsewhere other than relying on the zombie plague formula.

Too much focus on Humans vs Humans recently, World War Z was different and I liked the direction in the book, the film however? Not so much.

When was the last time you all saw a war take place against the undead horde? That's what I like about the book, it isn't every man for himself, but Humans vs zombies. That's a cool idea.

A fad for kids. Just like Vampires(Twilight) and Ambercrombie. Adults should pay no mind

Just in the past year, we've had The Walking Dead and The Last of Us, both games with zombies, and both of which I'd put among the top 5 games of this generation.

So no, I don't want zombies to go away.

Yes, this has gone on for too long, when you have people buying stockpiles of guns just in case a Zombie outbreak rolls by, you know you need to stop, we need to put the zombies down for a while and start a new fad that will make people not even more paranoid.

I am somewhat inclined to agree.im tried of zombies myslef.with the exception of few gems like left 4 dead, the walking dead game(the good one.the show just dont care to watch),Shuan of the dead.i do really want to play last of us(heard it has some zombie ordeal).other then those, i just dont care for it.

Romero has not made a good zombie movie in YEARS.last few of his where just awful.nothing but drugs/sex and trash in couple of them.if i wanted that.id just borrow my one punk rockers friend porno collection and i would rather never do that

Romero himself can't live up to Romero. His recent stuff just can't contend with his original trilogy, yet they're still better than most zombie movies, as disappointing as they are. That's how sad the genre became.

It's just a fad, just like vampires and werewolves. Once people get sick of them, they probably move to other fads. I can already see a girl who falls in love with a Frankensteen and an alien.

I was tired of 'em a while ago. Haven't played Walking Dead nor will play Last of Us... Why? Because the theme of zombies is cliche and damn boring, it doesn't even have any possibility of substance to it. If there're good zombie games it's because of other elements, zombies don't have anything to do with it.

I became a zombie fan when i watched Night of The Living Dead by George Romero back in 1998.
I'm still not tired of the zombies but, i see how someone might get tired of it since its everywhere nowadays.

When Brad Pitt does a Zombie movie you know you're past cliche.

I'm open to films and games still adding something to the sub genre but in general it needs to be a bit different i.e. Warm Bodies. All post-apocalyptic films suffer from the same issue which is where do you go when the plot is finished? The conclusions are usually lacking in believability and that can impair the whole film.

Galactic cannibalism >>> Zombies. At least it can be proven. And I got front row seats to it the end of the Milky Way. Better wear my shades for this.

I think the problem is, as you said, that zombies are the easiest horror thing to make video games about. You can't really shoot ghosts, and running from a crazed machete guy would quickly loose it's charm. Though running from a machete guy would give new meaning to "survival horror".

I'm really surprised we didn't see any modern games with licences such as Halloween, Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, etc. Even if it's difficult to pull off, I thought there would have been some attempts at licensed horror game cash-ins on legendary horror names. I know Freddy was in a Mortal Kombat, and there were a couple of Evil Dead based games in the PS2 era, but they are pretty much played for laughs.

Maybe they've all become too big of jokes to consider.

Last of Us does not have zombies in it :/
