So on my second playthrough of ME2 I got a little over-zealous with the main missions. Long story short, I finished up everyones loyalty missions then headed for the derelict reaper to acquire Legion. Afterwards, I spoke with him to get his loyalty mission and finished that up as well. Unfortunately, I realised that you are soon after rail-roaded into the suicide mission and i've yet to upgrade the normandy.
Is it possible for me to stop EDI from completing the installation of the IFF? There are many assignments and DLC missions I wish to complete and I can't now since the galaxy map triggers the event. I've heard its possible to hex edit my save? Is there some string value that will hold off the installation of the IFF or just "freeze" it all together?

You can still upgrade the Normandy before starting the suicide mission with no consequence. Unless you do not have enough credits?
You can complete DLC missions and assignments after completing the suicide mission.

After they kidnap the crew you can still go to the tech lab and make your upgrades before going through the relay. You can also mine planets for resources. What you can't do is complete any other missions. Well, actually, you can if you don't mind losing some crew members. My first time through I lost Kelly and Gabby because I wanted to get one more mission done and didn't realize it would mean I would lose some of the crew. Dr. Chakwas was none too pleased!
