Also a lot of people think it's Oghren as someone who looks like him appears in the trailer (his back anyway).. but it would also be silly to the people who embarrased him on his personal quest.
You can technically kill dog before he joins your party, but once he does, he never leaves. My money is on dog or oghren.

Awakening*
Anyways... I think it will actually depend on the game you upload. My money's on either Alistair or Oghren.

i assure you that they are not gonna hire a voice actor just to accommodate people's choices in the first game. so whatever your choices are in Origins, you will always get the same companion back for Awakening, i know Bioware is famous for their high quality product and should be doing pretty good financially, but they are not owned by Bill Gates or whoever the richest guy in the world are now.
Actually I wouldn't think it matters if they had all the money or not. They are contracted by EA to do a job, that contract pays only so much, the rest is business. Really any short comings of the game should be directed to the primary financer not those doing the job.
Your correct though, it's not going to matter what choices you made as they couldn't possibly afford to pay for the voice overs for every possible outcome. Although........if they are going to charge the same as the original game for this expansion then they theorhetically should be able to or they are cheating their customers.

Then again, being so certain it's Oghren makes me think it's not going to be him. I don't think the Devs would be so hush-hush about it if it's right in the trailer. I don't think we're really going to know until the game's out and to be honest, I'm perfectly fine with that.
I love me some surprise.

They aren't cheating customers. They aren't saying, "Oh, buy this game for US$40.00! It'll have all your favorite companions in it and will accomodate to your every liking<3333333. We swearsies, everything and everyone will be perfect and based on anything you wanttt." They're putting down on the table what they're willing to sell the game and all its contents at, no bull****. It's up to the customer to decide if they want to pay for it.

Alistair: In most endings, he's going to be dead, a wreck, or too important to go gallivanting around the place. (Mind you, a similar argument could be made for Human Noble wardens who go that route, but depending on gender they'll have Anora or Alistair to hold the fort.)
Morrigan: Is gone.
Oghren: While there's an Oghren-like figure in the video, none of the Epilogue endings appear to indicate that he stays with the Wardens.
Shale: Has few endings where she stays with the Warden
Sten: Will return to his homeland.
Wynne: Is strongly hinted as to not having much time left.
Reading through the epilogues, the characters that seem most likely to stay with you (apart from Dog) are Leliana and (surprisingly) Zevran...if only for a time. Based purely from looking at the epilogue endings, Leliana seems the most likely candidate - even if not romanced, she seems to have the highest chance of continuing to work against the darkspawn either with the Warden or with Anora, and of the romantic options, she seems to be the one for whom a disappearance would be hardest to explain away. Thus, having Leliana being the continuing companion seems the option likely to mesh well with the largest range of possible endings of the original.
Dog, of course, would stay with the character no matter what, but they already have a handy plot option for getting rid of Dog if they think it's necessary - have Dog finally succumb to the darkspawn poison.

To the subject at hand. At the moment my money on Oghren being the lone choice, lots of little tidbits point to it. Another legit possibility is a choice between Oghren, Zev, Leliana, maybe Alistair. If three or four VA's were all doing recordings as cameos it's possible they could have done recordings as party members at the same time and not stretch their resources too much. Perhaps whoever you romanced jumps in your party, if you romanced none or Morrigan (She appears to be gone at the moment) it may default to Oghren. I don't know, all speculation based on attempts to decipher mostly irrelevant nonsense. I'm sure they'll tell us soon enough.

My guess? Alistair is the "old favorite" because unless you betray him, he's either the king or still a Warden. As king, he could very well decide to join your adventure considering whatever happens apparently determines the fate of Fereldan (again), and he's the kind of guy that wouldn't want to sit by on a throne through it. As a fellow Warden... well, bam, he's there. And if you did betray/drop his butt at the Landsmeet, (either he's a wandering drunk, disappeared, dead, whatever) then you simply don't get him in your adventure.
My understanding from what information has been released so far is that without actually playing DA:O, you'll be able to play Awakening as the Warden from Orlais, and in that event, I'd guess that they've prepared some type of cannon ending of the main story (probably Alistair as king of Fereldan based on the trailer).

My guess is that the old favorite isn't any of the companions. I'd be willing to wager it's someone who we don't see much of but everyone loves anyway. Someone with a magical beard perhaps.
This. It doesn't mention companions - and every single companion in DAO can be either killed or driven away (or leaves). It doesn't make sense to have an 'old favorite' who in many players' games is dead or gone. So it's probably some npc. This is pure speculation, but it makes sense.

This was a comment from Melo made in the IGN interview.
With regards to things like Leliana; again, there are some cameos --
there is one party member that returns that can join your party and
continue on. I think we're trying to keep that under wraps until a
little bit closer to launch though.
So yeah, it's one of the old party members.

Although I am wondering if it might be possible to tie the Orlesian warden to an ending in which your PC in DAO sacrificed themselves to slay the Archdemon...My understanding from what information has been released so far is that without actually playing DA:O, you'll be able to play Awakening as the Warden from Orlais, and in that event, I'd guess that they've prepared some type of cannon ending of the main story (probably Alistair as king of Fereldan based on the trailer).

Anyways for simplicity sake ill just paste my thoughts from there to here. Hope it helps-
Good arguements for Leliana. I'm gonna suggest it's not her though. Reasons- The endings varied a lot based on how you decided to play, your gender, decisions you made ect. As far as I know Leliana only makes the commitment to follow you in future adventures if you're a woman. Also she was taking care of the Alienage at the end. While this doesn't in itself nullify her from future adventures with you, it does mean that she has a job to do. So if she were to rejoin you there would have to be some lore, explaination to justify her leaving her "post". Finally, she was a really weak rogue. Having her come back as a party member, she would be a liability to you unless some serious changes to her character were made.
Shayle? Perhaps but I doubt it. He wanted to explore the world on his own, or with Wynne depending on your ending. Chances of running into him at some future time in an expansion? Probable.
Ogrhen? Likely. He became a general of the topworlders army. He would fight with you against the Blight at the drop of a hat. Also, you get him soooooo late in DAO, it would make sense that you get him again in the exp.
Morrigan? Doubt it. She leaves you never to be seen again. She has her own evil agenda. Chances of seeing her again in an exp? Very high I feel. But I would think we won't be on the same side of the battle field next time we meet. Just speculation but it would be very interesting.
Sten? Nah. He leaves back to his homeland with his sword. The next time you would see him would be when his people come to conquer Ferelden.
Zeveron? God i hope not. Zev=suckville
Dog? AKA "Chicken" as I called him. A dog named Chicken is just a funny identity crisis in my book. He got my vote for the worst player that joins you every time i played the game through. As a rogue, mage and warrior I never found him justifiable to take with me. I hope if he is returning he gets revamped to be worthwhile.
My guess is Ogrhen. If I had a choice of who I could bring with me it would definatly NOT be him. But there are worse ones you could get stuck with.

And some endings will require an explanation as to why the Warden left a non-Warden post. Whoever it is they choose, there are some Epilogues that they'd need to twist a bit to have that companion continue to be a companion.Phannypack wrote...

I'd disagree strongly on this point. She was pretty much stapled to my party, largely because she was the only competant locksmith and trap-disabler to be had, but she pulled her weight in combat nonetheless. (And I note you're not exactly overflowing in compliments for the other rogue either.)Finally, she was a really weak rogue. Having her come back as a party member, she would be a liability to you unless some serious changes to her character were made.
