i'm just thinking, if Bioware wants to keep the returning companion a secret, why would they put him/her in the trailer?

My guess is they didn't really expect people to sit there and study the trailer all that hard or it's really not that big of a secret for them they just don't want to announce it just yet. Perhaps they left themselves with a few options are simply haven't finalized anything hence why it's not annouced. It does seem like an odd oversight, then again Bioware never has been very good at keeping secrets locked down.

Who else but the Miss Ferelden 2009!!! LOL

Seriously now... I think it's Oghren, there's always a dwarf sidekick!

I think we should consider with this argument that Bioware pulled of the trailer minutes after it was released. They just put it back on because of the constant whining in the forums of people looking for the trailer. lol Maybe that was the reason?

I think most of us didn't notice them do it.
If they were to give a reason, it probably would be "For technical reasons - maintenace of the site etc"

It's most likely Alistar or Oghren(If he decide to hang around Denerim) and obviously Dog.

One thing's for sure... It's not Morrigan.

I'd stake my house on her being saved for Dragon Age 2: The Old Gods.

Starting to lean Dog's way now I think about it. He could be a common character throughout the whole series like the Dragon Age R2D2 or something.

Though I want to say Alistair, as he was the only one 100% visible in the trailer, the fact that he can be killed or run off at one part of the game sort of nullifies that D:

Every companion can be killed or runed off, lol.

I say Oghren, I mean he DOES become general of Fereldan's army, so would make sense to have him around.

Alistair isn't the only companion who can die or be run off, though.  Since the devs have already said our choices in the game WILL affect Awakening, I'm sure the ability to re-recruit the "old favorite" will also be determined based on your choices.  So, if Alistair was the returning companion, but I killed him off (or let him die, or whatever) then my experience in Awakening simply wouldn't include him on that particular character.

Though I meant that statement in conjecture with the trailer. Alistair's a strong candidate since he was the only truly recognizable and visible Origins party member in the Awakening trailer, but he might not be the returning favorite because of said reason.

Well, I sure hope so. That would be somewhat unfair to those who killed him off though, hahaha. No returning favorite for them.

Is there anyway Oghren can be killed?

All the other characters except Morrigan can be killed as far as I know. Sten can be left to die. Wynne and Leliana can be axed at the Sacred Ashes. Allistair and Loghain can be executed or sacrificed. Shale can be killed at the Anvil of the Void. Dog can be left to die or killed. Zevran can be killed.

Oghren and Morrigan are the only two party members who will be alive no matter what you did in DA:O. Since most of us agree you probably won't be able to recruit Morrigan that leaves Oghren.  It seems logical he would be the one in question just because it would be easy.  Otherwise the campanion may or may not be available to you depending on your choices in the first game, and that seems unlikely to me (although not impossible.)

The other possibility is Dog. The vast majority of players will have dog alive at the end and it would be weird for Dog not to be recruitable in that case. Assuming you DID kill dog it's a relatively simple thing for them to program in an exception for that. You simply find a new dog, that looks exactly like Dog, much like the Mabari warhound at Ostagar looks exactly like the human noble origins pet.

I think Allister is the most likely choice for 2 reasons....

One, besides dog, he is your constant companion through the entirety of the game, no matter the player being male or female. Also... I don't consider Dog a companion, he is more inclined towards being a pet.

Two, Allister is also a Grey Warden. Seeing that the expansion is going to sort out the past and future of the Wardens, he will be an excellent choice.

...A third reasoning, though not as strong, would be that he is on par with the player, be it age, class, experience or skills.

I believe it's Oghren. He's one of the two companions that cannot be killed(along with Morrigan). It would be easier for Bioware to put him in the expansion than anyone else for practicality reasons.
Even if you told him to leave you know he's still somewhere out there ALIVE.

But this is not really the case with everyone else. Alistair may have been fed to the Archdemon or been executed by Anora. Wouldn't be unfair to those who let him die? To purchase a product that has less content than it should because they made a choice that had the freedom to choose?

Wouldn't you hate it when you install the expansion and get a message "Buzzz... sorry, you let Alistair/Zevran/Leliana die, now you must play with one less companion"

For that reason I'm putting my money on Oghren. Not to mention he is in the trailer...

I actually agree with you, I think it's Ogren, but for the sake of playing the devil's advocate, I suppose it would be possible for the devs to make one of the new companions optional - e.g.. if you spare Loghain,  thus writing Alistair out of the picture, Anora offers you some kind of help for whatever's going on in Amaranthine - a bodyguard or something of the sort.

But I doubt the devs would go down that route, fun as it might be.
