I am going to parrot @Blazomancer's first suggestion, but offer up either City Elf or Dalish Elf....if you are in the mood for playing an elf. LOL. (I happen to have a soft spot for the Dwarf Commoner and City Elf origins)
Cunning DW dagger Rogue is by far my favorite....I am playing a human mage/AW right now, and I feel all thumbs trying to run her like my beloved cunning based DW rogues. heh! XD

First time through? Go Mage. Good intro to how magic works in the game, it's really hard to gimp your character, and slinging spells around is both very powerful and great fun! :-)
Race and gender immaterial. Spec - Spirit Healer if you fancy it, but really there's plenty of vanilla spells to keep you going. Pile on the Magic (and a little Willpower) points and you're golden.
If it's not your first time through, Dwarf Noble. 2H warrior (strength based), either gender. Great fun.
Not that Dwarf Commoner is a bad way to go, at all...

Depends on what you mean by interesting, of course. You've got a human male warrior type as your avatar, so are you looking for something dramatically different? Do you mean interesting looking? Interesting build? Interesting Origin story? Interesting new experience? Interesting overall on all grounds?
- Blazomancer's first suggestion (female dwarf commoner rogue dual-wielding daggers) is near to my favorite character already- though she's Dualist-Assassin rather than Bard-Assassin and DEX-based. I'd suggest either. Dwarf DW females are great! And very under-played- lots of dwarf-specific material you pick up that way. Dwarf DW ladies have the best-looking animations for take-downs on dragons and ogres too, IMO, just given their smaller stature felling Goliaths. For a visual, here's a couple of my Kruklya doing badass dwarfy DW moves:

Finishing off a revenant...

Facing off with an endgame ogre...
- Dwarven two-handed warriors- commoner or noble- are also a very good "interesting" choice- that short, stout body hefting the huge hammer, axe, or sword- very dynamic balance of proportions, but it looks better on the female. The female also gets a semi-romance dialog option with the Origin companion (who then buys at twice the normal rate later in the game). I want to make my f!DN 2-hander also an archer, likely Champion + either Reaver or Berserker. My f!DN Klydia with her huge maul:

*THWAMMM!!*

Gotta love that form...
- I'm also planning a female Dalish Mage who becomes an Arcane Warrior, though that requires the Dalish Mage mod. No reason the Dalish shouldn't have a mage origin option given that you meet Merrill there (and the Keeper seems a mage too). It also seems the only reasonable way that mages ever become an AW given how rare and elven it's supposed to be, so it's a unique storyline.
- A Dalish rogue archer Dualist/Ranger is also a very unique character to develop storywise and buildwise, though you're treated pretty much the same as the city elf in terms of reactions to elfness- and again there's a semi-romance for a female with the main (first) Origin companion, though it's less developed than with the f!DN.

City Elf, Warrior, FEMALE (the bride), Reaver-Berserker/Berserker-Templar - strenght based (2h) or dex/strenght based (dual wield)
The ultimate story of vengeance served by traumatized strong willed elf woman.
yeah.....

Female Dwarf Noble, Warrior Archer so use crossbows and medium armor (until master archer talent then switch to heavy armor), Berserker/Champion or Berserker/Templar if you want to be more anti-mage.

Umm, yeah, if you're into short-legged stubby brads with big nose, -go ahead,Dwarf DW ladies have the best-looking animations for take-downs on dragons and ogres too, IMO, just given their smaller stature felling Goliaths. For a visual, here's a couple of my Kruklya doing badass dwarfy DW moves:
i prefer the slender gracious elf brads myself.
I suggest female elf arcane warrior, the unrivaled survivability aside,
i can alternate between playing either a heavy duty warrior and / or / mage as per my preference,
at any given point in game, after lv 7.
If you have version prior to v1.02, dual wield is fun with flaming weapons,
if you have v1.02 or higher, you need RtO for Cailans arms in origins,
but can dual wield daggers in awakening with the avvar set
