I've never seen any episode of that series, but it's the only series that fits your description from what I know.

Before anyone pulls my man card (it was that kind of show), I watched that show because the girl I was dating at the time was a preppy-type who pretty much loved that show. I don't know why: the region of Australia that she and I lived in at the time was basically the Australian version of the O.C.

A crime author joins a feisty detective and together they solve crimes while dealing with blossoming feelings for each other.
