I am a pretty health conscious person who exercises regularly but I live by the 80 percent 20 percent lifestyle rule.
That is to live healthfully 80 percent of the time and get your groove on the remaining 20 percent.
That said, I enjoy a few beers a week, preferably while I'm gaming.
I love Tsing Tao. Great tasting beer and you don't need that much to knock you on your ass. Drinking it while talking with Oghren at camp is great fun because I can imagine I'm enjoying a drink with him.

Liquor is better

That said, if I had to choose a hard liquor it would be Vodka. I find Vodka tastes the best.
Gin is the worst. Absolutely vomit inducing poison.

Jack and Coke? C'mon, good stuff there
I like whiskey. Some anyway (never really cared for Crown Royal). Must be my father's Irish blood speaking.Andarthiel_Demigod wrote...

Funny enough, Tsingtao gives me a dull pounding headache in the temples that starts shortly after I take a few inches or two. Other beers don't seem to do the same. But I'm pretty much a non-drinker except out of curiosity, so that might account for the extreme reaction. Otherwise, I prefer Asahi. Something about the brand sticks out for me.

Anyway, my favorites change according to mood and what type of beer I want at the time.
If I'm going for something dark or stout, I usually go with Guinness or Murphy's. For ales, I usually enjoy Magic Hat's multiple offerings, as well as Saranac Pale Ale. I also like Long Hammer IPA, but I sort of view it as a normal Pale Ale as it isn't strong or hoppy enough to be a REAL IPA. Speaking of IPA's I love Leviathan from Harpoon, but it is damn expensive, so I usually drink the normal Harpoon IPA. For lagers, I tend to go with seasonals, such as Sam's Winter or the multiple different incarnations of Oktoberfest beer that come out in the fall. I drink ales about 80% of the time though, far more than lagers. Also, in the summer, I often enjoy less heavy Mexican beer like Corona, Sol, and Negra Modelo, all with limes of course.
I'm a beer snob, couldn't you tell?

Agree with the Gin sentiment. Stuff is gross. I also hate vodka though, seems more like something you would use to clean a wound than a drink. Only hard liquor I drink is Whiskey (all three kinds- Irish, Bourbon, or Scotch), and of course, the favorite is Jameson.

you aren't drinking the right kind of beer then.
You come to San Diego, I'll take you on a tour of some of our 30+ craft breweries and you'll change your mind, I guarantee it. The beers here are as varied in taste and composition as wines are. We don't go for coors light or bud here. blech. If that's all i'd ever had, I would hate beer, too.
incoming beer snobbery:
I'm lucky to live in this beer mecca. seriously. You may not have heard of most of these breweries, but we have AMAZING stuff here in San Diego.
Stone Brewery is probably the most famous, you may even have heard of them. I like the Seriously Self-Righteous Ale and the Arrogant Bastard Ale...I'm pretty sure Arrogant Bastard is available at specialty stores/pubs all over the US now.
Personal favorite beers are:
Port Brewing's Old Viscosity. It's the blackest beer you'll ever see (seriously, you cannot shine light through it) and it's also the smoothest beer you'll ever taste. It's like drinking a rich mix of chocolate and coffee. It's dark and sweet and it will ruin your taste for any other stout/porter. Yes, it's better than Guinness. pssh.
Lightning Brewery's Electrostatic Ale. Their summer seasonal, it's like drinking spicy christmas cider without the apples. cloves and nutmeg and other spices abound, and I give this beer to people who say "I hate beer" and those people even like this beer. It's the most unique beer i've ever had.
And Stone's Smoked Porter is also a favorite, though a bit more hoppy than a standard porter.
Look for Stone's stuff around you, at either specialty stores or pubs. I know they export out of socal now, and trust me, it's worth it.

I'm not an expert on the subject but according to everyone I've spoken to European specifically Belgian beer is the best.
I suppose my argument is that beer is too bitter for my tastes, same reason why I'm not particularly fond of straight black coffee.
My favorite drinks would have to be Reisling(White Wine), Mead and Sake. On the light side Cider is pretty awesome.

As long as the drinks aren't too girly. I've only been able to enjoy a few cocktails and the others were too...I don't know, not sweet, but eh, the drink(s) was/were so caught up in trying to cover up the alcohol it mixed all sorts of weird crap together that would've tasted horrible w/o the alcohol in it.

My first choice at the bar is Guinness, though I tend to quiz the barman first about where the Guinness keg is in relation to the bar taps before ordering. If the keg is too far away (has too much tubing between the keg and the glass) or if the plumbing hasn't been cleaned between kegs I'll order something else. It's an excellent stout, but if the bar doesn't take the time to keep the Guinness taps clean and as close to the keg as possible, the taste goes from great to just plain nasty.
I'm not a big fan of the Scottish beers. Scottish water is too soft to make a decent ale, though there are a few gems to be found. Tenents and McEwens are both well-rounded and smooth, and far more palatable than the other local beers served here.
The best beer that I've had overseas came from a local brewery in Cologne, Germany: Gaffel. Very crisp with a slight spike of fruitiness to it, and goes down very smoothly. The frustrating thing is that I haven't been able to find it outside Cologne, though maybe it's time I planned a trip back there for the beer, if for no other reason.
