Best beer I ever have been drinking (and at this age I have tasted quite many beers from different countries) was in closter's own bierkarten near Munich, but I can't nominate it because they sell (or at least at that time) only in their own closter and I can't remember the name (yes, you are right, I took too many masses)...
So, the best beer I can buy, is "Double Bock" by Olvi.

Alcohol doesn't really 'alter your mind'. You must be thinking of certain drugs.Chained_Creator wrote...
I don't do alcohol. My mind is already altered enough.
Some people are just way too uptight. ONE drink will not make you change your political views, your religion, or your favorite day time TV show.
If you don't drink that fine, but it's really not cool when people demonize something they don't fully understand and are too scared to try out.
Not saying you are/do in paticular, but I've heard stuff like this from plenty of non drinkers- 99.9% of which have never tried alcohol in their life.

Same goes for shooters. Most critics don´t know what they are talking about. That´s practically the qualification to criticise something.

Yes, alcohold does alter your mind. It affects your behavior after consuming a certain amount relative to your body weight and previous consumption history.Thief-of-Hearts wrote...

I believe none of those things.Thief-of-Hearts wrote...

Since I have tried alcohol before and do not condemn people for consuming it, I am lost as to what point you're trying to make.Thief-of-Hearts wrote...

One beer can, however, be the first step on a slippery slope. Several members of my family have had "just one beer" and ended up in AA. Drinking is a personal choice and no drug is without risks, so the decision to not take alcohol is a perfectly valid one.

Stone Brewery is probably the most famous, you may even have heard of them. I like the Seriously Self-Righteous Ale and the Arrogant Bastard Ale...I'm pretty sure Arrogant Bastard is available at specialty stores/pubs all over the US now.
Look for Stone's stuff around you, at either specialty stores or pubs. I know they export out of socal now, and trust me, it's worth it.

I live in the Northeast, so I tend to get New England/ New York breweries, but they do have Arrogant Bastard Ale on tap over at the local pub, and it is quite good, so your support for Stone is likely well-deserved.

Really now? Maybe I just have the wrong idea about this thread - you know, that the subject is about alcohol consumption and the merits of enjoying it. I must be mistaken. My bad.

True enough. But that's a person's personal demons and personal health/mind problems. Without trying to over simplify your points, by that stance it could just be someone's attitude or amount of discipline they have. It could very well be the same problem with someone who is a shop-a-holic recently out of debt, or someone with other health concerns and certain types of food. Addiction is a whole different beast. There are literally millions of people, you and I included, without and addiction to it, that can have one drink and walk away safe without our minds being altered.

Which is why I said one drink. By that token anything taken in excess alters the mind. That doesn't make it a bad thing. Cough syrup for example. It's purpose is noble enough - to make someone sick healthy. But take one or two more doses than necessary and people start hallucienating.
You can argue that the effects of alcohol are more apparent faster, but there's a reason that countries have an age limit for it. You drink it as an adult. Handle it like an adult. Know your limits. The notion that alcohol is evil is silly and childish.

And what exactly does that have to do with the main point? Nothing, except deter from it.

I didn't mean for that to come out offensive, and I'm sorry if it does. I've just had way to many people do ****** parades over one silly little drink, like people who do are devil incarnates. Still, I stand by my statement that one drink does not as you put it 'alter peoples minds'.

That I don't really see what your point was comming in here and posting that (your original message)?
Well maybe I'm drawing different conclusions from what you meant. I don't know, attention to detail or something but, I've known people, some of my friends growing up, on hard drugs and THAT is mind altering. To make a connection between is...well you can't really.
If the OP had said "who likes to drink" versus "what do you like to drink", it would be a different story but you came off as someone who looks down on drinking and drinkers specifically in a thread for them.
This is not a thread about the evils or benefits of drinking. Now move along.
Exactly! Now to get back on topic...
I do like Smirnoff, but that's a vodka (someone was asking for one but I don't remember if they said this like this brand or not). I really like the flavored ones. Watermelon and Grape are great.
I also like malted drinks, especially Mike's Hard Lemonade.

It was certainly more productive than +1, wasn't it? (Hey, look, it actually started a midly entertaining debate that alleviated my boredom for a short period of time. Though it's rapidly returning as I prepare to go pick up my little brother for this wonderful MLK day parade that he gets to march in that I must watch.)Thief-of-Hearts wrote...

Well that's definately piqued my interest then. I'm up for trying things out at least once.
As long as the drinks aren't too girly. I've only been able to enjoy a few cocktails and the others were too...I don't know, not sweet, but eh, the drink(s) was/were so caught up in trying to cover up the alcohol it mixed all sorts of weird crap together that would've tasted horrible w/o the alcohol in it.
The main point of my post, even for people who don't live in or visit San Diego, is to look into craft/microbrews.
Seriously, drinking mass market, boring american lagers that all taste the same (coors, bud, michelob, miller) is bound to turn anyone off beer. It's like drinking Boone's and never trying any other wine. And by the way, stuff that those companies market as "craft brews" still all taste the same. (Blue Moon and that fake hefeweizen, i'm looking at you).
Finding a good microbrew is pretty easy nowadays. start here: http://www.craftbeer.com/ and choose "get local" and there you go.

Stouts: Bell's Kalamazoo Stout/Dominion Oak Barrel Stout
IPAs: Lagunitas IPA/Boulder Mojo IPA
Random Honorable Mention: Belhaven Scottish Ale (but definitely out of a can, not bottle)

Negra Modelo, all with limes of course.
Negra Modelo is sorely underrated by serious beer drinkers (at least in my parts of the U.S.). Very good stuff - particularly in the summer, as you said.

The above statement goes for the big brands in America (Corrs, Budweiser (horrid, horrid beer), etc). Personally I prefer Belgian, French or English beers and if it's a hot summer day and it's cold I'd go for a Carlsberg or Tuborg just for the nostalgia of it (or if I'm drinking mainly to get drunk)

big brands, yes.
But I urge you to give american craft brews a try. go to that link I posted and look around at all that's out there. Not sure where you live, but apparently there's even an all-american microbrew bar in Amsterdam now
