Does it even matter in ME 2? Or are we going to end up with the same new council anyways?

According to Jacob's comment, not much has changed.

Jacob says the outcome = nothing changes. Politics reign supreme.

I save the Council for a lot of reasons, though saving the lives of those 3 individuals is not the primary reason.

but jacob was talking about the all human council

In both of my playthroughs I saved them, however reluctantly. My reasoning was twofold. Point one: as I understand, that, when you concentrate on Sovereign, you leave your flanks, or even your rear, wide open to the geth. I didn't think that it was a sound strategy, so instead I chose to save the council, thus eliminating most of the geth, and *then* to concentrate on Sovereign.

Point two: it was not unreasonable to speculate that if you won't save the council, other races could blame humanity for their deaths, and it could lead to war. Which, under the circumstances, would be disastrous for entire galaxy.

*sigh* Bioware's ME plot didn't go the way I speculated after all, but I don't think I'm going to replay ME1 just to kill council only because of that.

Exactly the last we need is is gives the aliens more reson to hate us afterall it will take every species in the galaxy to defeat the reapers.

I saved them in hope of combining forces to fight the reapers, that’s why I put a soldier in charge and humans are new to the scene gained so much power in a short time just imagine what we could do with a bit more and all the other spices will acknowledge are greatness the same way they do with all the other council races that and I didn’t like the whole dictator thing to much like Hitler. Look what happened to the Krogan’s they moved to fast in the wrong direction and now there just shadows of there former self’s.

Plus I don’t think all the other spices will just roll over and take it in the a**.

:innocent:

I saved them. I wanted to hear their deferential cries of gratitude after they acted like a bunch of supercilious basterds throughout the whole game.

Dug this out of a thread from the old forums.

1. Killing the Council would create a power vacum, in addition to causing further mistrust of the Alliance. This could lead to a delay in the races unifying their defenses, or even begin a civil war, all of which bleed efforts away from preparing for a Reaper invasion.

2. The Destiny Ascenscion. Ship's just too damn powerful to throw away. In a future battle against another Reaper, I'll feel alot better having that giant boomstick at my back.

3. It's my duty, I took an oath. Might be what many would see as the weakest reason, but it matters to me.

4. No tradeoff, as far as we know. Whether you choose to let them live or not, the Alliance Navy is still the strongest in the aftermath, Sovereign still gets destroyed, so why not just save them?

I saved the Council because humanity needed to prove that it could be part of the greater community. Pity the Council weenies out however. I'm SO disappointed in them! *shakes fist*

Saved the council. Elected Anderson in about 99.9% of plays.

Did Udina once to get the other view of things.... even renegede I'll save em

frankly, I think humans would blow it trying to rule citadel space correctly.

I saved the council for one reason only. Despite really not liking them too much, I have to give them credit; they know what they're doing. As hard as it is to admit it, humanity are still newcomers to the galactic community and I honestly don't think they're ready to oversee the galaxy on their own. The council is a group of seasoned veterans who know just how to maintain citadel space. Thus, I saved the council because like it or not, the galaxy needs them. All that said, I think the more experienced council in conjunction with Captain Anderson (or Udina, if you know, you want the biggest tool in the galaxy representing humanity with a council seat...) will make an excellent combination.

Irrelevant. If Sovereign succeeded in ME1, later politics wouldn't matter.

2. The Destiny Ascenscion. Ship's just too damn powerful to throw away. In a future battle against another Reaper, I'll feel alot better having that giant boomstick at my back.

It couldn't even stand up to a single reaper. What a huge piece of useless junk.

3. It's my duty, I took an oath. Might be what many would see as the weakest reason, but it matters to me.

No, your duty is to "preserve galactic stability by any means necessary", in this case meaning stopping Sovereign from calling his buddies. Better with a new council than no council at all. Also, note the "any means necessary part". That means anyone is expendable, provided it furthers the primary goal.

4. No tradeoff, as far as we know. Whether you choose to let them live or not, the Alliance Navy is still the strongest in the aftermath, Sovereign still gets destroyed, so why not just save them?

Benefit of hindsight. We need to consider the facts you had on hand in that very moment. Maximizing your chance of success at stopping Sovereign trumps anything else, including saving the council.

And for the record, I'd save the council if I could. It's just too foolishly risky, in my opinion.

I would like the renegade option to save the council which we don't get.

Doing it so later I can rub it in their faces, how right I was, and be given more power as a specter. So in the future if the council ever argues with me I can just remind them of the conduit.

While it is no part of the canon or storyline the Tradition has always been to respond to a distress call 'if possible'. This is of course how a certain squad of alliance marines got Munched by a Thresher Maw and I nearly got Blown Up by a Nuclear Device but Hey we just keep on Knee-Jerk responding to the Distress Calls

What do you think the outcome will be in ME2?

My first playthrough was mainly Paragon, so I let the council die (I think it's more Paragon because it is a refusal to sacrifice thousands of lives to protect just three, whereas letting them live sees their lives as being more valuable 'for the greater good'). My current playthrough is mainly renegade and I shall save them.

I killed them in 7 out of 8 playthroughs. Of all the sassing they do to me I find it hard to really feel bad for it at all. I also always hang up on them when doing renegade playthroughs. Makes me laugh every time....jerk-faces.

Glad to see that it wasn't mine only reasoning! =) Sadly, it has been made irrelevant by ME2 plot, but still.

Saved the Council with my paragon Sheps and most of my renegade Sheps. It's not like humanity is the only civilization in the galaxy. If we're supposed to be part of Citadel Space, then we need to act like it and support the current galactic government, which would include defending the Council.

My renegade character like them die and my paragon let them live. It all lies in how each of them views their mission. My renegade will be anything she has to to get the job done. If a few thousand people have to die to save a million or if she has to let a few innocent people die to get to her target, so be it. Saving the console was too much of a risk. Sovereign was the real threat and nothing else mattered but getting right of him. As for my Paragon, she's different. Saving the console is important because they're needed to run the universe. They will see and understand the importance of the Geth and the Reapers being stopped now. They won't be able to deny the problem anymore and the rest of the races trust them. It will be easier to organize and army if the leaders are trusted.
