I was wondering how long it would take this thread to reach: The German workers party.
On a related noted. Why is ****s censored?
These boards have automatic Godwin's Law in effect.
Which is great.

I haven't read the Wikipedia article that David linked yet (planned on it after I post), but I agree on both counts, obviously there's a lot of parallels between the Jewish Ghetto's and the Alienage since that was at least part of the inspiration and the fact that the phrase used is NOT racist, it's pointing out a historical reference.

Why do you have to compare that to the jewish ghetto? Anyway, this is bitter and please stop with the implied bigotry. It is a slum, a ghetto, no way similar to the jewish ghettos of world war 2.
I'm not Jewish and I resent the comment on "implied bigotry." There are a lot of historical parallels in this game, and I thought this possible was one of them. OK? And the ghettoes existed a long time before WWII, or didn't you know that before posting?
Then the title should be changed to ghetto! Not a jewish ghetto!!!
Look, other posters have noted different and valid historical comparisons without resorting to personal attacks. You are the only one who got all butthurt about it.
+1 to this. I personally don't agree with the OP all that much, but crying because he used -Jewish- ghetto instead of a generic one (which isn't the same thing) is pretty sad, man. I didn't hear you screaming when the Elves were compared to American Indians, or the Japanese, or "Everyone America has ever wronged" (that's a real thread) or America, etc, etc, etc.....
Get over it.
Agreed, much like that poster in the accents thread getting all butthurt over just the mention of "brittish accents" To be honest the new trend of everyone has to be so PC as to not possibly offend anyone is half the problem with more than is prolly appropriate for this thread, so I won't get into it here but the whole Political Correct movement should just go away imo.

Your boot camp full of ignorant people or do they subscribe to irony or "opposite world" kind of mentality?ArchigosAJ wrote...
I'm one of a very few Jewish people in my area, so people pick me out all the time. Even when I served in the military when others found out I was Jewish they called me Hitler for most of Boot Camp.
I wasn't aware being jewish was even a physically visible feature, and if they were picking on you because you had other rites than they did, that just proves they were dicks in general.

I have no problem with a computer game presenting a situation, which has been inspired by historical facts. Actually finding a new approach in showing actual problems of society and human living by transferring them into a fictional universe with parallels to the "real world" is a great part of any kind of art. And I consider certain well made (computer) games like Dragon Age to be indeed art.
The conclusion of experiencing an injustice in a game, which has parallels to human history, should not be bashing the reference to it, but reflecting on it and perhaps change/adjust one's thinking, speaking and acting.
It is historical fact, that in European history the Jewish people suffered more than others from prejudices and segregation, and sadly were put into ghettos during many periods of history by the citizens and governments of most European countries. But after the transfer into a fictional society this situation stucture can be applied to any kind of segregation -- here it's City Elves -- independent from the original first inspirational source.
If a game or movie helps people to recognize similar social structures or prejudices or political movements promoting segregation and hate, people become more aware of it and hopefully act before anything like the holocaust can ever happen again.

Skin color was already topic of a thread. Don't know exactly where and which anymore. You can create a character, which resembles an European, Asian, or native African human in appearance. Basically no limits. The PC could always be an adopted child, if it looks differently from the rest of the family... and be quite unique among his people.

So this is quite a violent and dark game, based on Europe? As a European, I object!

As a European, you'll surely know about the violent and dark history of medieval europe? Many things in DAO resembles parts of European history:
The Elven alienage, the chantry, the exalted march, the witch (in DAO also mage) hunting and killing, the power politics and violent clashes of nobles and kingdom's alike, and many more

Not entirely of course as the themes found in the Elven stories are too global to not also find reflections of any major race segregation theme in history right down to South Africa in the times of Apartheid.
