Is Bioware working late nights and weekends to get RTO out?

And they do work hard, but not -too- hard. It's counterproductive. Learn2business.

Why is bioware reading forums instead of working on rto
The PR department that works on these forums aren't doing the bug checking/fixing as I understand it, so it doesn't make a difference to RtO whether they're here or not...

It's likely they are working overtime if EA has any hand in Bioware productivity that is. From what I've heard of EA is that they work their coders like whipping dogs...

Besides, you can access the forums from home. It's called the internet. It's this cool thing invented by a dude named Gore, that lets you talk to people that you normally couldn't talk to due to distance and travel problems.
I'm sure these overworked coders with their families being torn apart like to go home and browse DA forums in their free time.
idc when RTO comes out i'm not going to buy it. I just don't get why people on this forum think its insane to think people should work hard.

Your understanding is wrong. Some bad companies work people like crazy, but then they at least lose all good people to better companies out there (one of which I have pleasure to work for) or (at worst) get sued like EA.
Overtime is counterproductive, bad management practice and really brings nothing of value in a long term.
As someone who likes working overtime, I disagree with your assessment of its value. However, I won't dispute your claim that it isn't the norm. Over the years, it's been the gaming media that have given me the impression that long days of crunch time, etc, are required in the gaming industry. If it's all clock in-and-out at set times, then that's great.

I'm curious why people think working hard means working overtime. I would think the quality of work determines whether you're working hard or not, not the duration, and thus far I've seen pretty amazing quality out of their developers.
I whole heartedly agree. I work for a company that dishes out tons of OT, and people in my group who i can't stand take advantage of this. I love me some OT every now and again when i need cash, however a few (not most) Will come in and spend the whole day making personal calls and get paid 20-30$ an hour to not do anywork. And when im on my normal hours and im doing 3x more work sitting on the side of them, its very frustrating.
Good workers are good workers, and bad workers well....."Rats will play while the cats away"
Thanks god, that bioware has alot of what i would consider "Good workers" based on the fantastic product they released.
Thanks guys : )

I assure you that OT is a very common practice across all gaming/software companies. As your project approaches a milestone, more effort is required to bring things in line, especially when you attempt to balance needs vs code freezes.
Whether or not it is counter productive is a different argument. In general though, companies simply do not have enough employees in any given department to get by any specific milestone without having overtime occurring. This is especially true in intensive departments like QA.

Why is everyone all up in arms over one hour additional content? Next thing we'll get are the flames about how long people had to wait for just one hour of content.
It's not the content, it's the fact that 2 release dates have been given and missed that is annoying people. Along with the fact that people purchased points on those two, as well as on the statement "the pc version will be available later today", so they feel they've been misadvertised to and cheated.

You've seen quality of work or quality in the product? How do you know they don't take a smoke break every 10 minutes and browse forums when their boss isn't looking?
Are you actually questioning how efficient they work? Are you their boss in disguise? Who are you man?!

I bought my points a few weeks ago also. I was disappointed when it didn't come the date it was promised. But I was like "it'll come when it comes". I think I was tempered by the fact that I knew there wasn't a ton of content I was getting.
The only thing that is annoying is that I 've stopped playing my current game because I wan't to pick up some of the kickass swords that will be added since my PC uses swords. I'm already nearing the end so I want to be able to get some use out of it.

I'm the same, bought my points that day. But I bought points, not RtO itself, so whatever.. I want it, but not crying over paying for it and not getting it. Delays happen.
But, what I posted before seems to be the general consensus

Actually I was refering to the post above me that I quoted. He asked why we are measuring work in quantity (overtime) instead of quality. My point is quality of product isn't a good gage of how they are working. The person above me saying DA was fun they must work hard isn't how i look at it.

I doubt they are treating RtO like crunch time. The release of the main product was the big money maker, everything else besides RtO was finished already. This doesn't bode well for future development post-release. I imagine part of this is EA, and their lack of faith that extra content will bring in big enough profits. I wouldn't be surprised if after DAOs initial release they moved many devs onto mass effect 2, seen as a much more important title for their bottom line.

They should have videos of them working as downloadable content. that would be win.
live webcams really aren't that hard to setup, that would be interesting for sure.
