Is there any must-have DLC?

Are there any game-breaking glitches (or just annoying ones) that I should avoid?

And, lastly, class recommendations for a newbie...

Here's my choices of must-haves:
1 Stone Prisoner
2 Warden's Keep
3 Return to Ostagar
4 Witch Hunt

For sure there are some bugs. Almost all are only inconveniences; some can be immersion breaking (conversation bugs)
The only game-breaking one is the Silverite mines in the Awakening expansion; you have to manage it carefully to avoid the issue (the games continues, but...)

As for class, you cannot go wrong; there's only 3. Any you choose will have strengths and weaknesses. Pick the one that appeals to you, and choose the right companions for balance.
It helps to have one tank, one high dps character, and a healer. Lock-picking though very nice is not essential.

Here's recent thread about choices:

Enjoy!

Thanks. Another quick question: Are the stories in the series self-contained, or do things carry over into the next game (a la Mass effect)?

Origin is a complete story.
Awakenings expansion is well named - its an expansion; the same main character but very few of the old characters and plots.
Dragon Age 2 is not a sequel but a totally new game (different characters plots everything). While it acknowledges the events of origins, it has very limited plot connections to origins (but they are there!) and these limited plotlines do not affect the story of DA2.

I might suggest avoiding Warrior for your PC simply because you get more other party members of that type than any other.

Also, if you're going to buy enough DLC, it might be cheaper to get the Ultimate Edition of the game (even though you already have the base game). Of the DLC available, I recommend Stone Prisoner, Warden's Keep, Awakening, and Witch Hunt. The last two are expansions after the main game, however; don't read the summaries before you finish the main game.
