I've been debating on playing a mage but i'm not sure what race to pick.

Any suggestions?

I'm going for blood mage...and not to sure about how to play a blood mage/arcane warrior either any thoughts?

I've played both, there's no difference in play style between the two, it's all about what you want to play.

Blast!  Sloth beat me to the post again!

Well at the moment...i played a dwarf noble all the way through i loved it!!!

Tried a city elf rogue half way through the game...got kinda bored of it... actually to be honest i kept stealing aggro from the tank.

So thought i either try the following

Dwarf Commoner Warrior

Human Noble (with a big sword)

Mage.

Go elf. You start with an extra spell i believe.

nwn is the only game i ever liked a rogue and i played a rogue by setting up a ton of traps while sneaking around throwing an arrow leading people into it and ambush i never been a fan of the dagger rogue and archery gets dull fast.

Very minor differences, so really its a matter of preference. Without being too spoilery, the only differences I've noticed were in dialogue and one point in the Alienage (but less than I was hoping for as an elf). Elves don't get an extra spell, but do start with more points in magic and willpower, which are nice but quickly irrelevant since you can level as you will.

I played as a human, partly because there are two other elf origins and only one other human. The other reason is minor, that it made more sense to me to romance Alistair as a human, but that is more of a preference than anything.

Just an FYI, if you go mage, the Elf has slightly better racial stats (by that I mean theirs are geared more for mage than any other race). It's only a small bonus (1 more in Magic and 2 more in Willpower than humans), but better than nothing. ;)

I would highly suggest you steer clear of elves. Either go human or dwarf.

A. The necks of the elves look really really really wierd.
B. Their poorly implanted, besides a few odd dialog comments here and there, the whole racism against elves isn't really that present. I played as an elf my first time around and really didn't notice that big of a deal.
C. Elves suck

Dwarfs are the way to go, although you can't be a dwarf mage...sadly. Best origins, coolest tattoos, highest stats, magic resistance! F*in awesome beards. Not to mention when you go back to the dwarf city, it feels like your origin actually played a huge role. Which is more then I can say for any other origin.

I guess if you can get past A-C and really like elves, then elves make the better mage, but if your really into RPing, you'll be let down. As neither mages or elves are really treated the way they should be.

As far as class goes, Arcane Warriors is f*in UBER, but a bit dull. Go blood mage for pure and utter awesome.

Play a Dwarf commoner - Warrior
2-handed weapons are a blast once you get past their speed.

and don't forget to pick up the "Ageless" weapon.

Have you played Dwarf Noble? If not, well, thats the way to go my friend! Best Origin, hands down, by miles! I was really really blown away by it.

Dwarf Noble fighter = you cannot lose!

BUT, as far as not wanting to make a dwarf commoner rogue, well, I'm actually playing through a game right now with just that, and it's a blast! Thats coming from someone who also really doesn't like to play rogues. But a strength based, double axe wielding, Dwarf rogue somehow feels very very fitting and bad **** considering the dwarf commoners of DA:O.

*ever so slight spoilers*

PS- Human noble was the second best origin for me (only slightly better the dwarf commoner and city elf). Over all it was pretty damn boring origin, doesn't hold a torch to Dwarf Noble, except for the end which was really well done and really pulled me into the character. Very tragic.

The Human noble origin is a bit played down . . . there are only a few changes in dialogue and a slightly different conversation with Howe . . . and the whole marry a certain person thing.

First off, dwarfs (for whatever reason), are stat wise better rogues. Even with this being the case, playing a rogue in an origin isn't easy... dwarf commoner rogue isn't hard, but you won't be kicking butt like a dwarf warrior would be. A rogue is one of those classes that start off kinda mah, but quickly turn into an uber force of destruction... and by the end of the game it will be you rogue kickin more ass then your warriors.

It is very important that your rogue has a stunning attack. Personally I deck my rogue out with pinning shot and dirty fighting asap. Thus allow me to stun two targets.

After the origin Once you get a mage and tank in your group, your rogue will start to shine, but before then you gotta play it safe and smart.

Double PS- Pinning shot is the only archer talent I take as archery isn't all that good. I also get rid of it half way through the game thanks to the respec mod...

this is a MUST MMMUUUSSSTTTT have for all dragon age players.

Do you have XP or vista? If you have vista do the following, the directions aren't so clear on the website.

1. Go to your game folder, unless you chose a diffrent area it should be C:/program files/dragon age/bin ship

In that folder there is a program called daupdater. Run this program. Then select the mod you have dowloaded. It will install and tell u when it's completed. You should be ready to rock and roll after that.

Well, I'm pretty sure you do the same thing. Find your dragon age folder (where the game installed.) Go to the bin_ship folder and run the program. Then use daupdator to open up the mod you wish to install. I gots to head out, if you have anyother questions just message them to me and I'll do my best to help ya out.

You are forgetting hairstyle.  It is quite easy to make an Elf with hair covering the ears.

@ wishpig- What would you do if I happend to say.... oh, I don't know, dwarves suck? (I like dwarves I swear)

I would go with humans, because, well... I like Alistair, ok? I just don't think the whole inter-racial thing is for me. :P
