When I turned on my computer a few minutes ago I glanced at my Thedas wallpaper (from the new book) and wondered something stupid:

Could Seheron be connected to Par Vollen by an isthmus similar to how Panama connects North and South America?

The tip of Seheron is cut off on the north end of the map, and the change at the top of the map shows a transition from pale green to golden brown.  This little golden brown area suggests the tip of Seheron may be transitioning to a hilly or mountainous terrain.

Although the Qunari the Tevinter Imperium have been warring to possess Seheron for centuries, I wonder if the tip of Seheron has sufficiently hilly / mountainous terrain to prevent the Tevinter Imperium from expanding northward.  Given the fierceness of the Qunari, and combined with Qunari naval superiority, it seems conceivable to me that area northward was never explored by Thedosians and is "unknown" territory.  Perhaps the Dragon Age might expand northward of Seheron in future games and books if Thedosians can punch through Qunari defenses?

Hmm... about the isthmus, I don't think so. It's possible but that would alter the story because in that case, the Qunari wouldn't need ships to stablish communication between the both islands, and probably this geographical phenomenon will should have mentioned.

With respect to the montanious terrain located at the south and west side of Seheron... if the hills are high but not enough to stop the mages, the Qunari could have an strategic position and imagining a battle there, the mages of the Tevinter Imperium will be below the line of ground where the Qunari are, assuming that Tevinter's forces arrive in ships. Also this high terrain could ensure the vigilance of a long distance of sea, adding the Qunari ship's potential.

Quite possible. It appears that Seheron is made of continental rock, rather than volcanic or coral. Although it's still possible that the north end of it is submerged, just like how the Isthmus of Panama was once submerged.
