Well my mum’s bf decided that he wanted to try out ME3 mp (I suppose with a lot of encouragement from me!). Needless to say I’ve taken him under my wing.
However, I don’t think I’m qualified to teach anyone about this game, especially since my performance is so inconsistent
Granted, things were different for me when I first started out last March (I mean in 2012, when the game first came out). There weren’t people to carry you on gold. There was no Harrier, no Jugs or AIUs, no grenade capacity, no geth scanner, no responder loadout, no armoured compartments, no platinum, no jumbo equipment packs etc.
So far I’ve been teaching him to my current game-plan (but of course that’s changed for me as I’ve progressed). I played bronze and didn’t go on silver until I was something like N7 180~ and I didn’t go on gold until I was N7 800 ~.
I unlocked all of the DLC characters within the first few days of their release. I take all these things for granted – all I’ve got to unlock now are UR weapons.
Since I still promote; my philosophy is to promote everything so that I only have lvl 1s, and then I buy packs (in case I get character cards which would be a waste for me if I already had characters levelled up).
I’ve been telling my friend to only buy JEPs and SPs, but I’m starting to think that this might be bad. Recruit packs are good for unlocking all appearance options (in addition to XP) for human characters and other commons early – recently I’ve gone back to buying recruit packs to level up a little bit before I play in PUGs.
I’m aware that people have suggested previously that it’s wise to max out the uncommons before moving on to rares (otherwise Spectre packs etc will be filled with a lot of junk?).
I’ve also got this guy up to gold in four days. He’s competent with video games anyway (I know that some people have a ‘better orientation’ than others when it comes to video games). Again I’m not sure if I’m just teaching him bad habits – so far we’ve been doing gold Rio box-of-shame with me playing as a geth Jug. We scored our first wave 10 completion today (I’m doing my best to enable him to get Spectre packs).
All my self-important rambling aside; what I really wanted to address was the fact that I may have lost sight of what it means to be a newbie to MP. It was a long time ago for me, and things were a lot different over a year ago.
I’m doing things my way, but that may not be good for him. I just want to be a good teacher (since I’m not much good at anything else!).
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Also, feel free to criticise my whole game-plan for my own progression
