That's partly why Empire (imo) is the best out of the series. Kershner was able to mold his ideas into something workable while being able to mitigate and a couple of times just straight up tell Lucas no.^This. He had people that would tell him that things were a bad idea back during the OT. Luke was originally going to be a midget and I'm glad it didn't turn out that way.

It's my favorite as well. I adore George Lucas and am extremely grateful for all that he has done, but I am glad that Kershner got the freedom he needed when making Empire. Empire was amazing because it was solid action and twist central. It also had great character development and added a lot of dimensions to Vader.
I hope JJ has a few good sounding boards. He is a fan, but he could easily make bad judgement calls as well. (Star Trek?)
I'm cautiously optimistic for once. I'm usually never optimistic. I feel like JJ might nail Star Wars 7, he's stated its his favorite thing that he has done.

Agreed. I like Lucas a lot actually. He is a great creator and has a good vision. He just isn't a solid director in my eyes. Though 3 I thought he did well enough in writing and directing. Not that it didn't have it's fair share of problems, but it was a decent movie. Unfortunately it is overshadowed by it's predecessors. It's my favorite as well. I wish he would have started it out to where Episode 2 was Episode 1 and then we could have had a whole movie about the Clone Wars and Anakin becoming Vader toward the end. Then we could have an Episode 3 where Vader gets screwed up and comes back in the suit and finished off the Jedi. My main problem with Episode 1 was that it was an Anakin Skywalker origin story and I felt like I didn't need to know where Anakin came from. Episode 1 also felt like a waste because it didn't cover the Clone Wars which was something that we heard about briefly in IV.
3 was my favorite when I was younger even though some of the things about it bothered me (I loved all of the action). As I got older I came to appreciate Empire more because of how well written it was. You know what I think the main difference between the OT and PT is? The PT was a lot more action and the OT was a lot more talking, but the action in the OT always was the huge payoff while in the PT it wasn't.

The first Star Trek was decent enough, I just wish that they'd explained the whole Supernova destroying Romulus thing better, it's kinda crucial to why Spock and Nero went back in time and why Nero is so hacked off that his planet got blown up?
As for Star Trek Into Darkness... look, I love Wrath of Khan, but enough, can we stop remaking that movie? First Contact, Nemesis and the reboot were all pretty retreading WoK to some extent, that means we've had the last three movies be essentially the same?
What really bothers me the most is that there's actually a better story for the Trek reboot films going on in the background, one that's never been addressed yet, but you'd only notice it only if you've been paying attention closely?
So yes, there's a better movie happening in the background... but fine, lets just tell a story where Spock yells Khan really loud instead?
*Ahem*
Sorry, I've really not been happy with the way that JJ has been handling the Trek movies?

What about the part where Khan's blood can save people from death? I wonder if Anakin could have got some of that.

If they did that they would have found a way to tie in midi-chlorians levels with it...... Ugh.

They almost got there with TFU2 except the game ended just as it started to pick up.
And now it seems it will be no more.

Zero faith in JJ Abrams making anything other than a B side fan fiction out of Star Wars, but as long as he understands that the most important thing is the action sequences then these new movies will at least be on par with the prequels.

Actually if you have seen any of his interviews JJ Abrams is more a fan of Star Wars then Star Trek. He has said so enough times and the 2009 Star Trek had a lot of nods in the dirrection of Star Wars..

JJ doesn't know the first thing about Trek, he never even watched a single episode or movie. Everything he did with Star Trek was a unrequited love letter to make Star Wars, which seems to have worked like a charm. Now it's everyone's hope he doesn't F this UP.
