Lucas wanted the new films to be about a bunch of teenagers?

If true I've never been more glad that he is no longer at the helm.

Well to be technical. Luke and Leia were both 18 or 19 in A New Hope.

So....it started out as a movie about teenagers lol.

Yeah, that Revan wannabe Kylo Ren really has a bromance going and man crush on Revan. Too bad it's probably all for show, cause if he had 1/2 the power that Revan had, the rebellion and Luke and pals would be merked in first 5 mintues of the film. The beginning scroll would barely be over with and Revan would already have sliced Luke in half and having Chewie cooked over an open flame ready for some wookie BBQ.

He'd let HK-47 kill the rest of the meat bags.

But how many hated Lucas? The prequels split the fanbase and there are plenty of people who like and respect Lucas.

It's not about hating Lucas, I don't think anyone hates him... I think it's probably just more of a profound sense of disappointment with him?

I doubt the flack given to him is entirely down to the prequels, because as bad as they were, everyone makes a bad film at some point? (Ridley Scott and Prometheus, anyone?) I think most of the ire generated is because of his attempts to "fix" his earlier work, when most of the fandom felt that the original films were fine as they were and made their displeasure known?

That Lucas decided to do tinker with them anyway, kinda made it seem like he was slighting the fans that had admired his work for decades? It didn't help when he was caught wearing that "Han Shot First" t-shirt on the set of Indy 4 (and lets not even start on that movie), which made it seem like he was rubbing the fandom's noses in it?

Lucas deserves all the credit for creating the Star Wars universe, and his first two films set in that universe were fantastic. But sometime between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi he seems to have lost his mojo. Or rather he stopped listening to advice, which previously had worked as a check on some of his bad ideas.

I think that's probably it, during the orig-trig when he was at his finest, Lucas had a lot of people giving him good input? His ex-wife is basically the one responsible for making the Leia-Han subplot good because Lucas admitted he sucked at writing romantic dialogue... which is why Episode II was a freaking catastrophe when it came to the extremely forced romance?

Sadly though, by the time of the prequels, no-one around him was giving him any critique or were too afraid too? From the production diaries, those lower in the production often look really uneasy, like they don't want to tell a legendary director that what he's doing was kinda lame, while you have the higher-ups like Rick "It's so dense" McCallum ending up being little more than Yes-Men?

Does that make this entirely Lucas' fault? Nah, I wouldn't go that far? But it does seem like too much auteur licence and a lack of constructive criticism were major factors when it came to defining how Ep I-III turned out?

I think "hate" is too strong a word for my feelings. And yes, without him, no Star Wars at all, and one can only speculate houw dull cinema might have become ( Hm, instead we might end up with french relationship dramas in black and white *shudders*)

It's more like...a huge feeling of dissapointment. I remember very well before the Phantom Menace came out, watching some show on german MTV back in the days (they even showd music clips back then most of the time, can you imagine!?), and one moderator was all like "geez, new Star Wars! Damn, Obi Wanm, and the Clone Wars! Wow!"

And I was like that...in my mind I made up my own prequels, and they were, of course influenced mostly by the original trilogy, and Timothy Zahn's books and novels (he had clones covered already, in a much cooler way I have to say).

The actual movie was...mediocre however. And because we're on a Bioware-Forum I have to draw some comparison to Mass Effect. After the first one I was all thrilled, seeing Shep walking down the rubble, grinning, holding her broken arm but still triumphant. Then ME2 came out and...yeah, it was nice, but also so aimless, so unconnected to the events ofthe previous one....but hey, my hopes were up and...well, after ME3 all I can do is the same as with the Prequel Trilogy: Imagine how much better it all could have been...

And that's mostly what I feel about Lucas...disapointment, lost opportunities to make something truly great...a missed chance. Not really hate, maybe more sadness, but I start to sound a bit too dramatic, I suppose. It's just a bunch of movies after all

Yeah I don't hate Lucas. I just dislike what he did with the prequels. But he is a great creator and has a decent vision for the mythos. It just works better when someone (to use him again) like Kershner is at the helm and able to work out the kinks.

George Lucas looked to his friends for advice while writing the scripts for the prequels and in Episode 2 he had someone write with him. I don't get where this whole people are afraid to stand up to George Lucas came from? Unless he was known to be a drama queen backstage, but I doubt that judging on how he was spotted wearing a Han Shot t-shirt and he even had a frozen carbonite of Jar-Jar in his studios made by a fan I believe. To be honest, the Han/Leia dialogue was just as bad and cheesy as Anakin/Padme were.

Lastly when are people going to realize that a lot of people love the prequels?! Would it kill people to at least acknowledge that there is a substantial amount of people who like them. I would be angry If Disney rebooted the prequels just so they can appease the OT fans.

Edit: What about those people who constantly scream George Lucas violated my childhood is that what you consider disappointment?

Well having read some story's about things happening on set during production of the OT. He was pretty stubborn. Not angry or fierce just a little adamant on what he wanted.

I think by the time the prequels rolled around Star Wars had become such an institution. That people didn't question him out of fear, but rather out of fanboy-ness.

I love HK-47. One of bioware's best companions ever. Hands down. If there is a KOTOR III, I demand that he should be a love interest

Of course there are people that like the prequels! There is no doubt about this, never was, never will be. A lot of people like the prequel trilogy, nobody ever said otherwise...

I mean, most of that lot have neat comfy little cells in mental-asylums (usually neighbouring the cells of teh people liking the ewoks, on the same level the ones thinking Matrix 2-3 were great movies are also locked up, btw).

You know, people like this...

If the rumour that Han dies is true, I hope Lando waits a while before stealing his clothes again...

SWTOR has him appear a few times as an enemy boss... which sucks, because I want to recruit him?

Oh sure, we are able to recruit HK-51, but I'd prefer the real OG, not some expy!

Every time I hear about SWtOR it sounds like a bad attempt at a Mel Brooks version of KotOR

HK-51 was still pretty awesome. Just a pity he wasn't really integrated into much of the story. Since he is a companion everyone can get, and one of the most popular, I would have thought they could put a bit more dialogue in for him in the newer story parts.
