I am still peed off that they ruined "the force"
It was beautiful and mystical, and mysterious then Lucas the doofus puts in Midichlorians. FFS

Midiclorians are NOT the force. They're receptors to the force and theoretically everyone is capable of using the force.

science in mysticism leaves a bad taste in everyone's mouth. Force is based on the Concept of Chi from Eastern Philosophy. In short both Chi and Force are energy that is connect to Life and the universe.
My point, sometimes Less is more. Midichlorians are the force and the bad aftertaste.

They're not, they're receptors to the force. It just determines your force abilities, everyone is capable of using the force and it is still retains it's mystique.

But the allure fades. In the OT the force is a mysterious, illusive "force" that only a select few out of the entire galaxy could use. When midichlorians are introduced in the MOVIES they were portrayed as WHAT the requirement is to use the force. In the EU we know it's different, as far as the movies go: High midichlorian count = Jedi force powers. It took away the fanciful aspect for a lot of people. Making those sensitive in the force more or less a fluke rather than "chosen" or picked by the force. And remember a lot of SW fans don't read the EU. They just go by the movies. And in the movies they were poorly implemented. So midichlorian disdain is understandable IMO.
Plus Obi-Wan gave us an explanation of the force that told us what it is, while still leaving enough to the imagination.
"Well, the Force is what gives a Jedi his power. It's an energy field created by all living things. It surrounds us and penetrates us. It binds the galaxy together.... A Jedi can feel the force flowing through him."
To put it in a paraphrased version of what Patton Oswalt once said: "People don't care how the icecream is mad, people just want to eat it."
EDIT: I feel like such a nerd lol
