Alright, ...so...we now know just who Andy Serkis will play ... no big surprise, it's a motion capture role (poor guy somehow...^^)

link in spoilers, as some people are of course sensitive to such information...

What actually bugs me is the new villain's (and he probably is) name...is anyone feeling a menace from it, even a ...wait for it..."phantom menace?" Somehow Serkis' role-name (and his mocap-heritage adds to these nightmarish images...) makes me think more of this:

than that...

Dunno, we'll have to wait for an actual picture of his char guess, and the movie of course, but forst imperssions and all   Maybe being not-native english speaking make's a difference here?

Not reading the spoilers, but I'm guessing his character is probably in charge of The First Order (Emperor if they have one).

The only thing we know is his title/name. But I'd be willing to bet that's the case.

I've always suspected that Kylo Ren is not in charge, because he looks quite young. I figured him to be The First Order's champion or enforcer in a similar vein to Darth Vader. Without spoiling the name or title, does it have religious overtones? I'm expecting a lot of religious overtones in this trilogy. I'm thinking that The First Order is going to be very religion based, maybe this trilogy's theme will be religion versus religion and who can spread their's first/farthest? I have heard rumors that Kylo Ren and his lightsaber were inspired by the Knights of the Templar and the Crusades.

God I hope so. That sounds like a decent premise for some satire & it doesn't sound like any "Vader resurrection" type crap could really go along with it. Also, religion has always been a part of these films (the force was a metaphor for God/Buddha), but if they could subtly take a shot at religious fanatacism, this script has a shot at greatness IMHO

One of my worries is we're going to have too many cooks in the kitchen as far as bad guys go. There's already what 4 supposed bad guys? Kylo, Andy, That one chick, and who else? The Emperor may have been the ultimate bad in the end. But at least Vader was the face/focal point. The prequels lacked a central villain throughout that was on the front lines. I just hope there isn't too many, because then it's like who do we take seriously.

Well yeah, I knew the Force, Anakin's virgin birth, Palpatine being the devil and being cast down the Death Star II (analogous to a pit) were religious in nature, but I meant something like religious warfare :) Yeah, that does sound like a really good and solid premise for the sequel trilogy. I remember once reading years ago that Mark Hamill had been told by Lucas when the first Star Wars trilogy was being made that the sequel trilogy would be him passing the torch and passing on what he had learned. That could translate to passing on the ways of the Jedi which in turn means passing on his religion. One thing that really backs up the religion vs religion thing (other than the name "The First Order") is that in the second trailer when it shows a scene with a bunch of Stormtroopers gathered around a stage, if you look up on the stage, you can see a bunch of figures (Moffs or Admirals) that appear to be wearing capes. Why capes, if not for symbolism to Vader or for some sort of religious type reason?

Oh so they could be like Imperial First Order Clerics or something? Cool. Capes aren't an inherently religious piece of garb though.

I have a feeling J.J. & friends know they have a very tall order when it comes to the antagonist

I'm betting they introduced so many baddies with the intention of giving one or two of them a lot of spotlight in this film before killing them off at the climax of 7. I think one or two of them are going to serve a Tarkin-esque role for just this film.

Also; just accept the fact that Vader will likely never be matched. He is one of the greatest villains in cinema history. Period

No ever said anything about matching him.

You can feel that for both of us then. I'm still a skeptic.

And this is what I fear. Because it runs the risk of having throw away villains like Maul, Dooku, and Grievous (movie wise).

Every single person who goes to see this one opening night will be making comparisons between Vader and the antagonists in this film.

Search your feelings ... you KNOW it to be true

The OT had throw away secondary villains that were done right though: Tarkin, Boba Fett, Jabba. It could end up like that. We shall see though. It would have been better in my opinion if Grievous had been a rebuilt Darth Maul (that's what I originally thought when I saw Grievous pre-episode 3 release).

Well yeah but we did that going into the PT as well. It's not anything new. I'm just saying at least for the first entry it'd be better to just have one or two. Let things get set up first before we start bringing in our Bobas and Jabbas...

But how did they get the helmet!? I hope they mention it and not show it if they did end up getting it from Endor.

Ewoks deserve death! As is demonstrated in this docu-drama.

I'll admit, I got a kick out of taking down Wookies as Vader in The Force Unleashed and taking down Ewoks as Evil Starkiller in the Endor DLC for Force Unleashed II.
