I just hope the new Boba Fett doesn't have one of those ludicrous black-glowing-vibro-blades from the Clone Wars cartoon... yuck

I'd rather he got a Katana made of Cortosis or Phrik myself.

It matches up thematically with "A New Hope" and "The Phantom Menace", since they refer to a vague circumstance, along with "The Empire Strikes Back" and "Attack of the Clones" referring to military actions by a group of people, and "Return of the Jedi" and "Revenge of the Sith" referring to the ultimate achievement by a group of core characters.

Not related to this topic, just an Idea:
Can someone make a thread for 'Superheroes discussion'? Including comics, movies, animations and series...
I have a movie thread right now. So it's better that someone else does this.

Apparently Star Wars Episode 7 is going to feature more practical FX's then the prequels used, if this is true then I will be estatic. While I understand the impotance of green screen and CGI in a lot of modern sci fi/fantasy/action/adventure films I do feel that George Lucas stepped too far over that line in episodes 1-3, everything looked so fake.

About time. Practical effects for aliens look much better than CGI.

I just remembered Vergere from the NJO (Vong invasion) books... Damn I hope J.J. has a character as cool as her to fill in for Yoda. She had so much depth and a huge impact on everyone, if an indirect impact.

Not always, it depends on the cgi tbh. Todays CGI is leaps and bounds better than they where when I, II and III where made.About time. Practical effects for aliens look much better than CGI.

(Please note that this is not a serious comment).
Let's give this film it's own annoying character.
First of all, I want the character to be endlessly perky.
No not just regular perky but outrageously perky.
Then when things are going badly and the other characters are upset, the annoying perky character says. "Smile damn you! SMILE! Turn that frown upside down! Weeee!"
Oh and the perky character has to be some kind of offensive stereotype. That is a must.
No. One offensive stereotype isn't enough.
Try three.
Now to make things even worse, let's have this character flail his arms around and walk in a spinning dancing type fashion.
He has to say "yeah!" a lot. Oh "awesome" and "legendary" have to be frequently used words.
Then he has to have some portable instrument like a flute to denote a level of quirkiness.
He will play this flute a lot, even during times of trouble.
His other annoying hobby will be singing.
Lots of singing.
Last but not least. He has to look like a purple amphibian with a really goofy face.
This was meant as a joke. Please don't introduce this character into the films.

True, the quality of the CGI in modern block busters has improved a lot since George Lucas worked on the prequels.

I wasn't thinking about I, II and III. I just think that there is a kind of realism that we're forced to adhere to through practical effects that we lose with GCI. A show like farscape, at least with its aliens, is still very impressive today because of the practical effects used.

For me a more recent example would be the Orcs and Urak Hai from the Fellowship of the Ring which were created using mostly real life actors wearing make up, etc and then enhanced with CGI and then the Mostly CGI Orcs and Urak Hai from the Hobbit films that looked great but lacked that little bit of something that made them seem real.

I love farscape but I disagree agree with that, practical effects can become very dated, farscape is an example of this, but if you looks at a films like the upcoming planet of the apes, Caesar looks awesome and hes mostly cgi, as I said before it depends on the cgi and the practical effects, I think if you want to do things right you use both.

What about a superhero costume composed entirely of CGI for a Green Lantern?
Thanks for reminding me about that monstrosity, I could not look at Ryan Reynolds in his Green Lantern get up without feeling as if my eyeballs were being assaulted, it was very distracting. I get what the makers of Green Lantern were trying to do with the costume made out GL's own power, it was a clever idea but it was obvious right from the get go that it was not working and they should have gone with something more low tech. I also wonder how much money it cost the studio to generate that living costume effect for the whole entire movie because whatever the cost was it was not worth it.

I TRULY hope J.J. can temper his use of CGI with practical effects in a way that echoes the "special edition" of episodes 4 - 6
