Is there any preview of the rebel military? I mean, for once, I wish they looked as fashionable as the bad guys :\

Or if it's too spoiler-y, don't respond.

Just the pilot, that you can see in the First and Second Teaser Trailers.

Not a good sign, considering that the pilot uniforms and X-Wings look exactly the same from 30 years ago.

Not sure about the uniforms but I believe the X-wings have actually been upgraded from what they were in OT.

Palpatine's main goal for creating the Empire was to improve everyone's fashion sense.

Unfortunately, the Rebels disagreed.

Why should the uniforms change if they were functional 30 years ago?

As for X Wings maybe the engines were upgraded and all the other bits.  They don't use electronics in the SW universe so we have no idea what their avionics consist of..

Technology constantly evolves. At the rate the Empire goes, the rebels should be trying to meet them blow for blow. I mean they had an interplanetary death cannon which speaks volumes.

Star Wars technology has been mostly static since the old republic. Basically because of war which should boost technological breakthroughs but also stifles them. The reason the Rebels have such a hard time is because everything they have is either salvaged, repurposed, volunteered, or stolen. The Empire on the other hand has resources abound. So obviously they have better or at the very least better looking equipment and armaments. Because they have a means of acquiring such things. But just like the Falcon, they may not look like much but they can get it done when they need to.

They purposely look like they're in scraps and are just a rag tag group, because that's what they are.

I agree. A rebel group shouldn't be on equal footing with the big empire they're opposing. But given that the rebels are struggling to pull the bare minimum 30 years after the supposed major turning point whereas the Empire still looks prim and proper, it kind of cheapens the struggle of the original trilogy.

She isn't canon anymore. Neither is Ben Skywalker, Jacen Solo, Jaina Solo, or Anakin Solo. Anyone who isn't in the movies or who GL and Mickey say so aren't either.

It still works with the movies. During the Clone Wars with the galaxy at war the technological development would have been more focused on the best tools for destroying each other. The rest of the tech stays basically the same. By the time of the rise of the Empire, it's the same the deal with the exception that all that tech goes to the Empire. Now you have a galactic populous stripped of most modern forms of meaningful weaponry because it's outlawed, confiscated, or destroyed by the Empire. The Rebel Alliance still being an un-official militia, with no proper ways of gaining modern tech would have to result with what they could.

Besides the fact IIRC I think it was GL or one of those archivists at Lucasfilm that basically said the same thing when someone asked "If the OT takes place 15-20 years after the PT. And looking at art and comics that take place well after the OT, why does the tech not look advanced?"

The obvious first bit was, aesthetically it just looks less "pretty" because both the RA and GE were focused on functionality rather than eye candy. But they also said constant galactic war keeps technology advancement at a slow pace.

Because it makes so much sense for a galactic government with its military mostly intact to just wave the white flag after their two heads of state have been killed. The EU has had the Empire alive and kicking for decades after Endor.

The EU has been wiped from canon and that missed the point. It's the narrative direction that kind of annoys me.

And considering how the Empire suffered several massive defeats, you'd think the rebels would gain more support and supplies while the imperials would decline. I'm not saying the Empire should have just skedaddled after their superweapon got busted.

It still applies somewhat though. I mean the Rebels with gaining numbers and traction by the time of the BoE still were small compared to the Empire. The Empire spanned the entire galaxy. The Rebels were in a few key systems at best. So those on the fringes of Imperial space would most likely still be in business and even though they killed the Emperor and destroyed the second Death Star. It would still take a lot of time for the Rebels even with a free and possibly willing galactic populous to really start taking down the Empire. And you also have to remember the systems and planets that were actually loyal to the Empire and not just subjugated. I mean people did volunteer. The Moffs are a prime example that there were people willing to be on the side of the Empire.
