That's... Interesting.
I love Rian Johnson flicks because they play with your expectations and subverts the Hell out of them. This can be a bad thing too, folks I know didn't like Looper because they believed the trailers and didn't know who he is. Then I told them he made a fIlm noir set in a modern highschool. ![]()
So I'm wondering how much creative control he will get with the most merchandise driven cash cow franchise ever, to please all the suits.

The only better news I could imagine would be if Disney went with Guillermo del Toro

I'd love to see more quirky directors succeed in the blockbuster field so they can have more support later on to do their own thing.
Even if I have no interest in the WoW movie whatsoever, I'll probably support it, because Duncan Jones needs more recognition.

Del Toro deserves a Nobel Prize IMHO
Man, I hope this implies that Episode 8 will have a few twists on par with the legendary "Empire Strikes Back" (which was directed by another underrated & quirky director, Irvin Kirshner)

It really is.
Early on the EU isn't terrible, but it gets disastrously bad, mainly after the Palpatine arc and into the Solo children arc, and especially with the god-awful Yuuzhan Vong. On top of that, the EU nerfs the Galactic Empire to hell and back.

Well guys, we are gonna have to agree to disagree. I hated some of the newer stuff (Caedus) but the NJO/Vong books were overall pretty good IMHO

Please include Kyle Katarn in the movie. The greatest Jedi after Luke Skywalker in this period.

I just want Luke to be cool and not over-done. A true humble, yet omni-potent Jedi master. ![]()

I liked the Vong, but there was a sharp decline after that arc IMO.
I would like to see them incorporate at least some characters from the EU in the new movies. The Solo twins and Mara Jade come to mind.

The first four books in the new EU were revealed.
Del Rey is proud to present the first wave of novels that are part of the official Star Wars film canon, created in collaboration with the newly formed Lucasfilm Story Group. The exclusive previews of these four books, starring fan favorites and set during and before the original trilogy, will transport you once again to a galaxy that doesn’t feel quite so long ago, or so far away. . . .
A NEW DAWN by John Jackson Miller: Set during the legendary “Dark Times” between Episodes III and IV, A New Dawn tells the story of how two of the lead characters from the animated seriesStar Wars Rebels first came to cross paths.
TARKIN by James Luceno: Bestselling Star Wars veteran James Luceno gives Grand Moff Tarkin the Star Wars: Darth Plagueistreatment, bringing a legendary character from A New Hope to full, fascinating life.

HEIR TO THE JEDI by Kevin Hearne: The author of The Iron Druid Chronicles tells a thrilling new adventure set between A New Hopeand The Empire Strikes Back, and-for the first time ever-written entirely from Luke Skywalker’s first-person point of view.
LORDS OF THE SITH by Paul S. Kemp: When the Emperor and his notorious apprentice, Darth Vader, find themselves stranded in the middle of insurgent action on an inhospitable planet, they must rely on each other, the Force, and their awesome martial skills to prevail.

lol It's NOT ruined. The SW universe is going strong.
As for the EU, it wasn't the best, that's for certain, though I wouldn't say it was that bad. The New Jedi Order series and the Legacy of the Force series were pure ****. Actually, I a lot of the post-ROTJ EU was pure ****. The EU is completely officially non-canon now so it's like you ever have to take it into account ever again. Then again, everyone has their own personal canon, you're free to see it as canon.

Christina Chong is a good addition to the movie.
Gonna check out Lords of the Sith when I have the chance! Maybe Tarkin as well.
I too.
