I'm a simple guy. I see a grand army, I press like.

Anyway, I'm all for large scale conflicts, though I wouldn't mind if we see something more 'minor' for Ep VI, e.g. witnessing through different means how the conflicts erupts in the movie--be it in the form of aggression, coercion, deception, and so forth--ultimately leading up to a bigger one in the next movie and concluding in the 'last' one. Depends of course what the trilogy wants to do and what its focus will be, but considering on what the movie seems to be building up to, this in particular is something I'd like to see.

Starwars absolutely needs to present battles on a larger scale.  The OT gets a pass due to it's age but in a post Lord of the Rings world you can't really scale back to the skirmishes they were.

I was under the impression that it was supposed to be a troop transport of sorts?

EU justification for a stupid design. The way they were shot in ESB never had them drop off any troops. George Lucas wanted them for shock and awe. Though any rebel commander or engineer should've been relieved to see these things arrive.

It's like the Empire is saying here's 40 easy kills all you need is some rope.

Maybe they're not aiming for them.

Well then it defeats the entire purpose of Boyega being out of breath, and what's her name having that really odd expression while they are running away.

Agreed, the AT-AT's are something that is best not to think too hard about. I hate how the movie comments on how their plating is too strong to shoot through and then:

I get that they did it because it would be cool, but still, ugh.

I still dislike the name Snoke.

It's like if Snoop Dogg were in the film and had his own apprentice named that lol.

Nah. Unless you count the Koran one which just shows some scenes from a different point of view

The next trailer doesn't come out until Fall according to J.J. Abrams at the Star Wars Celebration.

Sure, but I disagree that you can't have smaller skirmishes presented in the movies in current age. After all, it boils down to in what manner said battle is executed and why it is being done in the first place. Bigger =/= better when talking about battles (unless of course you only care about bigger explosions and a lot of pew pewing).

I think the problem seems to be with you than with the director.

No, I thought about this, and the problem still is the directors/writers of the movies

You know what Star Wars really needs? More aliens. And I don't mean throwing a bunch of weird looking guys in the background and expect everyone to roll with that. Hell, we should have a movie where the main character ISN'T human. Or at least for more main characters that are aliens and have meaningful roles

Indeed. Its a galaxy of white humans, and aliens only march through the background now and then for comic relief or flavor. Chiss, Togruta, Rattattaki, Mirialan, Miraluka, Twi'Lek, Zabrak - all human-like aliens, at least add some of those (no need for an ortolan main char or an Advosze, I fully understand that)

But considering that some idiots are already "alienated" by black Boyega...*shakes head*

"Are you an angel?"

This film is taking too long to come out, waiting is rough but I am sure it will be well worth it just I don't like waiting lol.

So Kyo Ren since his a Darth Vader Fanatic, do you think his been researching the Sith and the movies will probably entail the return of the Sith?

Also I get this feeling his not with the Empire factions but just using them for his own gain.

According to legends, redshirts always die, but stormtroopers can't hit anything. That begst the question: if a stormtrooper misses a redshirt, does he die anyway?

Strange you started off praising a picture showing bigger and better empire then... Let's put aside our hipster hats and assume we all love starwars and that I am speaking from place where good story telling is a given.  Giving conflict a greater scale with context has merit but that doesn't mean it's worthless. You won't convince very many people that the Battle of Helm's Deep would've had the same impact if you only saw 20 orcs fighting 10 humans and a horse.

Try not boil things down to "explosions and a lot of pew pewing". I am not saying let's go Michael Bay. That's absolute trash with meaningless violence that served no purpose.  I am talking about movies have used large scale battle effectively like Omaha beach in Saving Private Ryan and Battle of Sterling in Braveheart.  Size, scale and production contributed greatly to the immersive effect these movies had on the audience.

In short: If you're going to put "wars" in the title of your movie then you better bring on the war.  With today's tech there really isn't a reason they can't. Oh yeah don't fool yourself, size matters.  ;)
