What's so bad about this situation is, if George would have let a script doctor just punch it up a bit the very same overall story could have been told but in a MUCH better way. Just change a few plot points here and there, make the dialogue more natural and genuine and of course they hired two wrong actors to play Anikin.  It could have been great, instead it was a bowl of nonsensical, cold spaghetti.

I don't think they picked the wrong actors so much as it was just bad writing. I mean the actor who played little baby Anakin was what? 9 years old at the time maybe? It's not like he can argue about shitty lines or feel he can act them better than he is told. And personally I think Hayden Christensen did a lot better with Episode III than he did with II. It's just bad writing, even the well seasoned actors in the prequels had a few cringe worthy moments.

The problem was IMO is that Anakin was supposed to be the tragic fallen hero archetype but he just never came across as likeable and that was even when Hayden was trying to. I'm not just saying this cuz I am from there but they needed a British actor. Both Liam and Ewan are so naturally likeable Hayden just came off as a cold fish and it never seemed he went from hero to villain. It was more like ******* to villain. Someone along the lines of James McAvoy (or someone like him at that time) should have had the part. That way when he did turn to the darkside the audience would be really emotionally affected,

It's was years ago, but I happened to have the tv on in the background one Sunday afternoon and a movie the name of which I can't for the life of me remember was on. Christensen was one of the leads, and looked to actually be younger than he was in Ep 2 and 3. He was good. He was able to actually emote, I could suspend my disbelief when watching and not constantly think of him as an actor and instead just seeing the character, he could be sad, angry, jovial or whatever and it was believable and felt natural. He seemed to have pretty good range as an actor,

I'm putting it squarely on Lucas' shoulders and everyone involved who didn't tell him that "No, George. This isn't how human beings communicate." The fact that even very respected and widely acknowledged as being extremely talented actors tended to deliver one of if not the worst performances of their careers under his direction speaks volumes. Portman, Neeson and McGregor were all meh at best. FFS, say what you will about him always basically just playing himself in every movie, but actually getting a wooden performance out of Samuel L. Jackson is an achievement in and of itself.

Sam was good in ep 1&2. He was ridiculously bad in his final scene in "Revenge"

He never expressed any emotion. At all.

This is how Samuel L Jackson should have been used.

Problem is, that kind of persona is not something befitting the role of a seasoned Jedi master, which Mace Windu was apparently supposed to be. Frankly, they should have simply gotten a different actor for the role, because Sam clearly wasn't a good fit, with or without the stupendously crappy script. With that said, I guess it doesn't matter who they cast for anything anywhere in the prequel movies anymore, because they were all horrible, CGI-laden filler. Windu's lame ass death was pretty fitting for what ended up being a forgettable character. It's sort of amusing and saddening how much better the Clone Wars series is in comparison to those films.

So do I, but I am pretty much certain that the film will at least be better than either of the prequel trilogy films. I don't think it's possible to really stoop lower than those films within the scope of Star Wars, unless Disney/Lucasfilm somehow signed on Uwe Boll or M. Night Shyamalan to direct.

Eh I didn't really have a problem with Sam playing the role, I thought he did fine until Ep 3.

Though I wouldn't really call Mace Windu a forgettable character

That is entirely the point. If you have Samuel L. Jackson in a movie, you have got to let him do what he does.

If they wanted to give the audience emotional investment in the CGI battle scenes, then there should've been much more focus on the actual war; the effect the war had on the people living with it, and the men fighting it. The Republic should've been the one attacked by the faceless clones, and Samuel L. Jackson would make a good soldier fighting the war, even in a minor role.

I stopped caring about it. I think it was somewhere between kiddo Anakin, pod racing and Gungans stumbling over their own tongue.

Its been pretty much confirmed that Mara is no longer canon.

She was originally slated to appear in The Clone Wars during the arc in which Cad Bane stole the Holocron from the Jedi Temple and Sidious started kidnapping Force Sensitive children. Since a lot of the development team is the same in Rebels, she might appear there.
