Seen it and I can understand why people have an issue with the lightsaber, user can easily hurt himself from the two "cross guards". Also the dialogue made me cringe, but overall it was decent.

The theme-park-ride-esque-travel-shot with the Falcon was all over the place. It would have worked better in a larger open conflict scenario, like the Battle at the Death Star in the original trilogy, whereas with the desert environment it just comes off as a bit pretentious and out of place. But that's only judging from the trailer -- It might help when we are provided with more context.

Nothing beats Avengers: Age of Ultron's teaser trailer. ![]()
... In fact Cortosis shorts out Lightsabers. So it'd be ideal for a guard.
I just realized what the Revanesque-Dark-Jedi uses to solve any potential finger/hand injuries: Cortosis Gauntlets!

Your favorite character!
Also Cortosis disables Lightsabers. So that would leave you vulnerable.
Better to put on the guard. So you can use it to your advantage.

Nope, not feeling it. It doesn't look like a Star Wars movie at all. The visuals, the cinematography, the editing... it's all wrong. Way too clean, way too stylized. And the whole "awakening" thing rubs me the wrong way as well, though it might just be because of the extremely minimal information and the way it's presented in the trailer.
Suffice it to say, I'm not impressed and will go forward with a slightly more skeptical attitude towards the film from hereon out. You'll have to do better than this, J. J.

Exactly. If the enemy touches their blade to your hand or saber hilt-- the blade fizzles out. If you have sloppy technique and touch your own blade, your blade is extinguished. It makes sense to me. Plus, if there is an opportunity for a quick punch, the enemy will feel it.

There's a good chance that the Sith in the trailer has mastered the use of that sword saber, and that it wasn't just thrown in there for the sake of looking "cool" or something lol.

Yeah. I didn't think that through.
When in doubt a punch to the face always works.

The Avengers 2 trailer sucked. I'm seriously getting sick of goddamn superheroes saturating the industry.

Alright, after rewatching and mulling over the trailer for a bit it's not as awkward to me as it was at first but I'm still underwhelmed by it. I think the editing has a lot to do with why the trailer bothers me. From the way the trailer is put together you'd think the Force "awakens" and the Stormtrooper at the beginning and the girl on the speeder just flip out suddenly against this vague threat. It's comes off as really clumsy, and hopefully that's not actually what's happening.
As for the Nazgul with the lightclaymore, the design isn't terribly more impractical than the original model. The wielder's fingers will not be in danger due to the side extensions (though a lightsaber might still be able to cut through said extensions). In fact the design might be better in some ways to the original design. Plenty of Jedi have lost hands being cut at the angle the crossguards are now located, so it could mean the difference between keeping a limb or losing one. That and a quick side jab from the wielder to the oppenent's face could really ruin someone's day.
And of course the increased length of the blade can put more distance between you and the opponent and could be difficult for them to get around, especially if they're using the shorter blade models.
As for the cortosis weave, that's part of the EU which Disney has largely thrown under the bus. So don't think about that too much.

I just feel like the cross guards would should do more harm than good to the user. I would have been fine and even thought it cool if the cross guards had been made of some metal and was a part of the hilt's design, but it just seems stupid to me as energy. When dueling one's hand(s) would likely be constantly moving up and down the hilt because of the kinetic energy that comes from the force of their opponents blows that they'll block with their lightsaber/sword, the villain's fingers should be moving up and down that hilt and thus in a realistic setting would very likely end up coming into contact with the cross guards at some point in time. ![]()

I see the user wielding and fighting with this model in a similar way to how a real two-handed sword would be wielded, which requires slower and more deliberate swings due to the much larger size and weight and makes it unlikely to nick yourself with the crossguard. It would of course not be as slow as someone fighting with a real claymore or similar sword since it's still a lightsaber, but it could not be twirled and flicked around like the original model can be.
Of course the wielder might twirl it around like a baton anyway since it's a stylish, flashy Hollywood film where the laws of physics cease to exist, but it's something to think about anyway.
Also Tatooine again, really? I know it's an iconic Star Wars location, and its instantly familiar even for non-fans. It makes sense to show it in the trailer as it is a familiar, nostalgic image, but Tatooine has already appeared in 5 OUT OF 6 of the films so far. They got an entire galaxy to explore, but they keep going back to the planet. Yes, I know, it's great that it's filmed on location and it's one of only a few planet environments you can do that way, but still, I'd rather see more different planets.
That said, still pretty hyped from the teaser.
We are thinking the lightsword as a crossguard but what if the things are inoffensive exhaust exits because of the energy that is needed to make the huge "blade"?
^Doubted, no other lightsabre needed them, so don't see why this one would.

If one of the leaks I've read is true, then it isn't actually Tatooine and it's just a planet that has been ravaged and turned into a desert state by a 30 year plus war between the Rebellion and Empire. Might as well have gone with Tatooine again if it's just going to be a desert planet though.
Eh, the cross light saber looks kind of silly but I can imagine them putting an explanation to handwave justify it. Star Wars has always been known to be steeped in "Rule of Cool" rather than realism.
Also, those youtube comments...

They're so stupid! That's how you know most of them haven't even touched the EU ![]()

Is this the "fandom" the prequels brought in? Was it worth it?
I'm just exaggerating though. Every time I look at the Youtube comments in general, I become a little bit more of a misanthrope...
