Any chance that the soccer ball droid is a new transformative feature they added to r2's

I hope it gets cut from final movie. I liked everything else in trailer

Likely it's Daisy Ridley's pet... keeps her junkyard in order, inventory, etc.

I read that it actually has a Weapon inside the ball.

And nope, no R2, since it's different.

I'd bet my left nut R2-D2 & C-3PO will be pretty much intact

With more thinking I realized this Ball droid is stupid. All internal components are in constant movement. Only the core of the ball can have a little stability for cpu and stuff. Unless it has one of those Star Wars magics (anti-gravity, shield, midiclorians, etc.)

How the Star Wars Universe has changed, since EU isn't cannon anymore: It's all theories and speculation.

Hmmm, I really like the sphere droid. To me it is instantly recognizable as star wars but also fresh and new... which is exactly what I want from the movie.

From a practical point of view the droid is awesome. Much faster and more robust movement than a R-series astromech droid. Mechanically a sphere is so much easier and simpler than a pair of legs. The only issue is how it stays connected to the head. But this is star wars, it doesn't have to explain that stuff. Just assume it is an electromagnetic force field and everything is fine.

Yeaah... But a football? Really? Couldn't they come up with something Star Wars-y? Like,  IDK, something that resembled a ball, but wasn't a ball?

In addition to the new trilogy, they've got 4 confirmed stand alone films.

I just hope they don't go through with the rumored Han Solo movie, no one except Harrison Ford should play Han Solo (same goes for Indiana Jones) in my opinion.

I want a Darth Vader stand alone film that is about him hunting down Jedi, that was something that I really wanted in Episode 3, but never got (well, in the traditional suit). That's really the only film spin off film that I want, but perhaps they could close Darth Maul's story in one of those stand alone films too. They could even have Darth Maul fighting against the Empire and Vader ends up confronting Maul.  -_-

Maul's story ended at the end of The Phantom Menace.

I never understood the appeal for him.

Then he gets chopped in half and dies.

He doesn't need the whole "I survived with my hatred" crap, and the spider robot body...and a brother...etc...
