Actually I have to say that ... I do not care so much about the whole Jedi-Stuff. What really made me hyped up for the new one is: The Empire is back!

Or still around. As I doubt that the Republic uses Stormtrooper-outfits for their soldiers and other gear, so its save to say that we'll have the Remnant-Empire-Idea from the Expanded Universe...which is great if true. Stormtroopers, TIEs, Star Destroyers, AT-ATs, all the cool stuff they have...

And with all the jedi-stuff, triple-double-super-lightsabres, comeback of the falcon and the old folks Leia, Han and Luke giving fans goosebumbs thinking about it ... geez, I for one would go totally nuts if Disney takes at least ONE character from the EU and interprets him for the new timeline in a way. We'll have one or two powerful sithlords, sure, whatever...

But how cool would it be if the military leader of this Remnant Empire is blue skinned, black haired and red eyed ... ?

P.S. A pity that train has left the station but ... wouldn't this gal have made a pretty decent Mara Jade? Only bit taller maybe....

I'd take it with a grain of salt (like any rumor) why would a pacifist become a soldier?

Those don't sound good. My "favorites" are the rebel superweapon and hiding the key by giving it to somebody instead of just destroying it.

It's going to be interesting if the consensus for the film turns out to be the old EU had made it better.

Well i do think the crossguard lightsaber is stupid. a good lightsaber can cut thru most material and it will break the crossguard if it struck several times.

Well, if the guard emitters are Cortosis it could short out an opponents Lightsaber for several minutes.

Which makes it very practical in a fight

But then again, if I ever had a Custom FX saber made I'd make this.

Darth_Nihl_LECG.jpg

So what do I know.

And yes my opinion on the new saber has changed.

Is anyone else kinda hoping we can get a Light Sided Sith in these movies? Who doesn't love a good anti-villain?

(And on a somewhat seperate note, how messed up would it be if that guy with the crossguard red lightsaber was actually Luke?)

So if I'm understanding it correctly:

Spoiler

I'm not upset at this point.  I'd like there to be less humans and more aliens, though.  Every single one of the characters listed above are human except for Chewie.  I guess either Kylo Ren or Gwendoline Christie's character could be non-humans, though.

Dark Side corrupts, is its nature, so no. It would be like using the One Ring's full power and keep being good.

Hamill said "our" offspring in a Newsarama interview, so Luke having a child is a possible.

Rebels using superweapons would be one hell of a wallbanger. Leia doing it would require a new term for character derailment.

And what's the problem with leaks? Anybody who wants spoilers and doesn't ho to the first session is going to know whatever surprises you have taken so many pains to hide.

I would like a morally grey villain who truly believes that they are doing the right thing and even at the end disagrees with the heroes.

Who said anything about the Dark Side?

While I know that the films are chucking out the EU, it's worth remembering that the previous films already established that the core difference between the Jedi and SIth's philosophies is that the Jedi deny and repress their emotions, while the Sith actively embrace them? A Sith who chose to embrace positive emotions, wouldn't necessarily be evil or find themselves corrupted?

And as an aside, it's always struck me as ridiculous that the Jedi train themselves since childhood to repress any kind of emotion, which we've seen time and time again tends to make them psychologically unable to handle it when they do find themselves feeling angry?

I would like a morally grey villain who truly believes that they are doing the right thing and even at the end disagrees with the heroes.

Wasn't this just Vader in the original trilogy?

Before the prequels turned him into a wangsty, unstable child murderer, his depiction in the original films was actually incredibly restrained for the most part? The only real time we see him lose his temper is when he chokes a few fools for failing him or giving him a bit of lip? Aside from that, the guy never really came off as "evil", especially when compared to the cartoonishly evil Emperor?

Only a King, Dictator or military high rank officer may be a morally grey villain in Star Wars.

Kreia was the nihilism in the force, not actually a morally grey.

Well that was Anakin's start of darkness, when he had a goal to save his wife at any cost. Vader did not just choke "a few people" he murdered his commanding officers if disobey or do not complete his orders and took part in helping the empire blow up a planet. He's more complex than the Emperor, but in the OT (especially the first two movies.) he was evil.

I could see someone who uses Dark Side powers and is a light sided character, as we've seen people like Plo-Koon use Force Lightning before in the name of good, but I genuinely believe it's impossible to have a light side Sith. There is so much more to being Sith or Jedi than just one 'represses their emotions' and the other 'sets them free'. Being Sith is a way of life, it's a religion. It's something someone becomes because they've embraced the dark side fully and they desire nothing more than to become more powerful. They're power hungry, they're selfish, and they do not like to share to the point that they'll kill off whoever else has it. These are not traits fit for someone who is light side.

To take a few quotes from Wookiepedia:

"The Sith are people who are very self-centered and selfish. There used to be many Sith, but because they hunger for power, they killed each other off, so now there are only two - a master and an apprentice. Sith rely on their passion to get things done. They use their raw emotion, their hatred, their anger, their bitterness - which is the dark side of the Force. The Force is what binds the galaxy together, and it has a good side and a bad side. The Sith learned how to manipulate both sides of the Force, and then they fell into the trap of being corrupted by the dark side. The Jedi Knights are like marshals in the Wild West. It's their job to make sure everyone is protected, to bring peace. They are the enemy of the Sith, because the Sith want to dominate the galaxy, to control everything, and for a thousand years they have had a plot against the Jedi. So, in this movie, it is time for them to seek revenge against the Jedi for perceived injustices and to carry out that plot." ―George Lucas on the Sith

"We take what we desire because we can.

"We can because we have power.

"We have power because we are Sith." ―Sith proverb
