Anyone rooting for the return of the Mandalorians as a force to be reckoned with...?

Really overrated guys, especially Fett. Luke would have taken him for breakfast if he weren´t busy dealing with the rest of Jabba´s thugs. And even then he almost did. They look cool, but that´s about it.

Apparently, Cumberbatch is confirmed to have a "small role"...

Some Irish actress has supposely read for the starring role.
I presume that would be Han's and Leia's daughter.
We'll see if it's true.

Yes, Saoirse Ronan. She's a good actress and would be a great addition to the cast.

And Benedict Cumberbatch would only have a "small" role in Episode VII, expanding greatly in VIII and IX.

Read about it here:

The Ronin girl is in a movie called Hannah,. She's a mutant child trying to escape from the CIA officer run the program. The CIA officer decides to terminate the program and kill all the children along with the families raising them.
Hannah escapes with the assistance of her CIA handler.
He gets killed by CIA agents towards the end.
Hannah escapes and kills the CIA officer who is also after her.
Long almost white hair and deep blue eyes.
Hope she does a good job if she gets the part.

Good. It seems a retcon of the stupid NJO is imminent.

As you may know Mark Hamill has been doing a story arc on Criminal Minds.
He plays a high level FBI agent who is also a serial killer known as the Replicator. Sounds like something from Stargate doesn't it.
I like Hamill but he's gotten old and fat.
Don't we all. Rotfl.
He needs to hit the gym.
Carrie Fisher said some months back in an interview she was going to the gym. She seemed excited , which because of her somewhat mercurial nature, makes me feel good about the project.
Since we know Hamill , Fisher , and Ford will be in the new movie, if only to hand off things to Star Wars, the next generation , I just hope all three of them are up to the challenge along with JJ Abrams.

After the 2009 and 2013 Star Trek movies, I have serious reservations. I have no doubt it'll at least be better than the atrocious prequel films, but my faith in Abrams is waning.

I think its been a safe assumtion from day 1 that NJO and beyond is gone.  Personally I'm okay with that.  Only thing after New Republic I care about is the Legacy comics, which are far enough out that they will still probably work reasonably well (and with soem head-canon to fill gaps) with whatever the movies do as long as there isn't something too drastic like another major planet getting blown up.

I hope the New republic timeline is kept though.  Or at the very least the Thrawn Trilogy.  Idk if I could cope with that series being retconned and Thrawn and Jade not being canon anymore.  The rest of the timeline, while I like it, I could accept it being replaced if the movies were good enough and the new history that took its place was better.  It would be kind of difficult though sorting out the fork in my mind and getting used to the idea that so much of what I've come to know as in-universe "fact" will become essentially alternate timeline.  I have the feeling its going to start feeling like comicbook style multiverse **** is going on, which is really going to complicate things for me internally.

Gah, the antisipation for these movies is going to destroy me.  Speaking of which..

I'm pretty worried.  Will it be better then the preqels?  Well, I could see that being both yes and no.  The prequels were bad for terrible acting and writing.  To the point is was actually funny, in the bad unintentional way.  Star Trek on the other hand, like many big budget movies these days, is bad in the boring substanceless action barf way.  Which one is really worse?  Pair him with Disney, who has been making what are in my mind a load of awful braindead Marvel movies (Avengers, the movie that is so popular I have no doubt they want Star Wars to be just like it, bore me half to death)  Most people would find me excessively critical, cynical, and maybe thats true.  Can't help it, doesn't change the fact that I'm worried.

Of course its fair to realize that if the original trilogy came out today I probably wouldn't think all that highly of it either.  It benefits greatly from nostalgia goggles that were implanted into my face when I was a wee lad.  At the same time though, those same goggles are the only reason I tolerate the new trilogy, as bad as it is.  I basically have come to accept that they are just poor depictions of events that still happened but in my head it happens... better.  Kind of head-canon of sorts, a nice new coat of acting/writing paint, a nice homemade blanket of betterness draped over the movies in my mind, if you will.  It all happened, it just didn't happen quite so stupidly in the "official head-canon."  Hopefully I'll be able to keep doing that for the new movies ..if.. they are bad.

But idk, it depends on how dramatic the shift in tone is.  If its too much, I just might accept defeat and receeed into the niche that is for sure going to rise in the next couple years.  The hardcore group of relatively older fans (and quickly following them, hipsters) who insist the old EU canon is the real canon and the new movies are the alternate nonsense and will scream that opinion across the internets and scifi conventions to the day they die.  I hope I don't have to go there.

I loved Saoirse Ronan's quote about how 'everyone' is auditioning for Star Wars Episode 7 including her. If it is true then it shows how much love people have for this franchise ( impressive considering Episodes 1 & 2 almost killed the franchise for me ).

In a slightly unrelated note J. J. Abrams has admitted that he 'is' guilty of using too much lense flare in all his films. What' interesting about this is that he is aware of the problem and many of the people he has worked with have pointed it out to him but he can't seem to stop doing it. Hopefully Star Wars Episode 7 will feature at least 50% less lense flare than Star Trek: Into Darkness.

Episodes 1-3 were bad. Very, very bad. Far worse than I remember, actually. I doubt anyone could screw these movies up even half as much as the prequels were, least of all J. J. Abrams (despite what some Trekkies say).

Hope the new films don't destroy the canon and characters established by Zahn's books, they were well written, and Thrawns character in particular was surprisingly well done, the epitome of a benevolent dictator.

Thrawns character made it understandable why many would prefer the order of the empire over the chaos of a republic made up of hundreds of species that can't work together to save their lives.

And as for Mara Jade? A great way of showing how a force sensitive could effectively be neither truly light or dark, instead being an normal human being who sometimes does questionable things, but with good intentions.

Hell, just turn the Thrawn trilogy into a script, and I'll be a happy krogan, as long as they don't ruin it.

J.J.Adams nearly ruined the star trek franchise though, and only got away with it since his films can be considered alternate universe stories by the original canon.

Not feeling optimistic here...

I'm hoping for a three-part movie spanning the life, rise, and fall of Jar-Jar Binks.

Episode I,II and III are actually the rise/fall part of Jar Jar! Though episode III hasn't represented his downfall properly... "not much Jar Jar acting"!
