2154: A second accident is publicized involving human exposure to element zero!
- Kai Shepard is born at 2:53am in Tokyo, Japan on the 11th April
- Aged 3 months, social services are called to the Shepard residence amidst reports of domestic violence. Kai is taken into care.
2157: The First contact war begins: The human race instigates a bloody war with the another spacefaring race!
- Aged 3, after almost 3 years in the orphange staff members have concerns about Kai's development, noting her unusual tendency to stay silent showing no inclination to express any form of communication.
2160: Systems Alliance Parliament is formed!
- Aged 6, staff at the orphanage notice Kai has a propensity for violence, often lashing out at other children. They also note she has difficulty building and maintaining friendships
2162: Construction of Arcturus station is complete!
- Aged 8, for the first time at the orphanage Kai seems to have sucessfully befriended another girl by the name of Holly. Holly's persistent kindness and sunny disposition influence Kai in a way no other staff member has been capable of. In the ensuing months Kai makes remarkable progress socially, and her violent outbursts appear to be under control.
2164: The Alliance's bid for an embassy on the citadel is jeopardized when Ivor Johnstagg claims to be acting on behalf of a radical human political party in his attempt to assassinate the volus ambassador!
- Aged 10, Holly is adopted by a couple from London. Kai becomes noticably withdrawn as she is seldome seen outside of her room. Staff are concerned that Kai's regression may lead to trouble, they also suspect she may be sneaking out at night, breaking orphange curfew.
2165: Humanity is granted an embassy on the Citadel!
- Aged 11, after being lined up for what seems like the thousandth time for couples seeking to adopt, and being overlooked once again Kai breaks her curfew at the orphanage and is never seen or heard from again. Staff call the authorities but they are unable to find any leads, Mostly due to lack of effort. Her case is cast aside and labelled another 'delinquent runaway'
2166: The BAaT program is founded in an effort to unlock the potential in human biotics!
- Aged 12, Kai joins a gang known only as R.E.D whose modus operandi is using disaffected young girls to distribute red sand in exchange for food and shelter. By utilising young girls in this fashion the gang can conduct drug runs without suspicion.
2168: Commander Vyrnnus, overseer of training operations at BAaT is accidentally killed by a student during a confrontation!
- Aged 14, after receiving secondary exposure to element zero earlier in the year Kai learns of her biotic potential. Emerging rival gangs learn of R.E.D trading routes and whilst making a drug run, a rival gang member attempts to steal Kai's bag. The bag splits and a plume of red sand puffs out in Kai's face. As the struggle continues Kai channels her anger into a blow pulsating with biotic energy. Leaving the aggressor lying motionlessly on the concrete
- After learning of her potential, Kai spends hours each day on the extranet researching and attempting to hone her biotic abilities without the aid of red sand's boosting capabilities. But without an implant her progress is severely limited
2170: The human colony of Mindoir is attacked by batarian slavers. Many colonists are killed or captured!
- Aged 16, after thousands of hours practice Kai is able to employ her biotic abilities to manipulate objects. To date such a feat is considered miraculous without the aid of an implant.
- L3 implants for biotics are developed after L2's are considered dangerous
2171: The batarians close their embassy on the Citadel due to the council's refusal to limit human expansion in the Skyllian Verge!... Cerberus assassinates Pope Clement XVI on Earth!
- Aged 17, Kai is officially detected as a biotic and fitted with L3 implants
2172: "Eliza" becomes the first sapient AI created in the systems Alliance, on Gagarin station!
- Aged 18, Driven by her own abition to be more Kai enlists in the Alliance military
2175: Cerberus provides Michael Moser Lang, a political dissident with funds for purchasing weapons. This leads to the assassination of the United North American States president and Chinese People's Federation permier. The resulting political reshuffle benefits Cerberus' shell companies and plans for the Systems Alliance Parliament.
- Aged 21, Kai gains a reputation in the Alliance marines, becoming renowned for her ruthlessness after several operations in which she displays a calculated disregard for life in favour of mission success. Many of her peers view her as cold and unsociable.
2178: Breaking news about reports on Torfan!
- Aged 23, Kai and her unit obtain intelligence on a heavily armed Batarian slaver compound on Torfan. Kai instructs 3/4ths of her unit to act as a distraction, assaulting the compound head on, whilst she launches an assault from the back with a small team. No one from the distraction team survives. The batarians who surrender are all executed by Kai.
2179: *No major galactic news!*
- Aged 24, Kai is accepted into Inteplanatary Combatives Academy where she desplays a remarkable propensity for zero-G combat, Miliatary free-fall, jet-pack flight, combat diving, combat instruction, linguistics, frontline trauma care for human and alien biology. Senior instructors also take note of her incredible use of biotics reporting: 'Kai has the ability to cover ground quicker than any other marine we have observed, with the use of biotics she executes objectives with brutal efficiency, achieving results we have never seen before'
2180: *No major galactic news!*
- Aged 25, After receiving N7 designation from Interplanetary Combatives Academy, Kai becomes commander of her very own unit. The newly created VRRU (Vanguard Rapid Response Unit), inspired by her use of biotics during the N-program. Kai leads a select few N7 marines with biotic capabilities; into combat situations where the condition of Alliance forces is most dire. With the units ability to turn the tide of combat back in Alliance favour, the unit becomes a resounding sucess, so much so that the iconic red stripe emblazoned on N7 armor is changed to blue specifically for this unit, to distingiush the units biotic capabilities.
2183: Humans and Turians collaborate on an engineering project co-sponsored by the council!
- Aged 28, Captain David Anderson takes charge of a prototype frigate, the SSV Normandy. The Alliance allow Anderson to hand-pick his crew. Having seen Kai's emergence as an N7 marine and commander of the VRRU, she is selected as Anderson's first choice to serve as his XO.
