The Day the Earth Stood Still - the original version (I hated the Keanu Reeves remake)
Invasion of the Body Snatchers - the original version and the 1978 version too
12 Angry Men - the original version
The Manchurian Candidate - the original version
Almost every hitchcock movie ever (to save the trouble of listing them all :P )
Seven Days in May
Alien
The Thing from Another World
The Thing
Bladerunner
To Kill a Mockingbird
War of the Worlds - original version
The Time Machine - original version

I'm in agreement with a lot of films that people have listed thus far, clearly.

Casablanca and To kill a mockingbird (Although the novel is better in every way).

For years and years I never watched Casablanca, knew it was a famous movie but really had no idea what it was about.  I was surprised at just how much I enjoyed it when I fianlly saw it.

To go along with the person that liked Jaws 2 better I'll be sacrilgeous as well and state I liked 2010 a space odyssey better than 2001.

(My all time favourite movie which I watch once a year minimum is 'A Christmas Carol - 1951 version'.)

2001: A Space Odyssey, Bladerunner and The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. Also, Goodfellas will never get old.

@AtreiyaN7 "Invasion of the Body Snatchers - the original version and the 1978 version too"

I like both of these equally. The '78 version really enhances the creepiness.

And just for controversy sake Jaws 2 which I honestly prefer over the first.

What?!

Truthfully the first movie bores me in places, I just got the younger characters more in the sequel. It's has a number of great scenes and I have watched it more than the first. The third also stood out more for me as a kid with the line "overman was killed inside the park, the baby was caught inside the park, the mother is inside the park". J3 is definetly one of the so bad it's good movies. Or it could all be because the first movies I ever got on Betamax as a kid was Jaws 2 and Frankenstein.

And thanks luna1124 should have clarified Carpenter version of The Thing - not that I didn't enjoy the original when I was young.

Blade Runner was on Encore like a couple days ago. That movie was made in 81' I think, and it's absolutely gorgeous and ahead of it's time.

"Like Tears in Rain". What a great line.

The "...like tears in the rain" line was an ad lib I hear. Bladerunner is indeed timeless.

A lot of great films have already been mentioned, so I won't repeat.

My list goes:

The Goonies
Yojimbo
Kundun
Man From Earth
Stand By Me
Harlem Nights
Wall E
The Dirty Dozen
With Honors
A Soldier's Story
When Trumpets Fade

Dozens of others. I really love film!

Star Wars and Alien are two that stick out in my mind.  Many well-done horror genre movies tend to hold up as well, as the look and feel of older titles is perfect for the genre.

Awww man, a list like this is impossible to me, I basically like almost every single good or bad movie made before mid 90's... even those horribly bad kickboxing flicks >.<

As a general rule, I usually prefer the original version over a remake. Take "12 angry men" for example. I had no idea the 1997 version was a remake, untill I watched the 1957 one and my goodness I was blown away by the acting! The cast in the 1997 version is epic, but the 1957 ones are on a whole other level! :o

The passion of Joan D'arc (1928) is perhaps still the most well acted film i have ever seen.
