I am a staff member for a large online gaming community, and we try to moderate questionable contenton our site. Recently we have seen a player created mod for NWN2 called Baldur's Gate Reloaded that emulates the entirety of the Baldur's Gate game in the  NWN engine.

Is this content/mod approved for use by Bioware, or does it infringe on some intellectual property somewhere along the way? A Mod or BW employee response would be awesome. Thanks!

Bio certainly know about it, as it's been tweeted about by industry people and had articles on it numerous gaming websites. So don't worry.

Less of a worry, and more of we need an answer one way or another. Our gaming guild is a physical LLC and it is home to about 6,000 gamers. We are trying to avoid ANYTHING that can have a legal repercussion down the road.

I'm going to answer, since I doubt you are going to get a response anytime soon. At this point we are in a forum which is owned by EA, for a game whose publisher has been removed by Hasbro, and the games Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter nights 1 and Neverwinter nights 2, just does not have anyone who communicates with us officially. We don't really have any moderators coming thru, and the only time EA will come visit is if we are reporting abuse of some sort.

If you want a response here, i would suggest a PM to a moderator or staff, or you just will be waiting a long time - we just don't have a lot of need for moderators. I'd say this is not really a good avenue, and you'd need to contact Hasbro.

I would say it's pretty safe. Hasbro is making more money either way , and the folks at Obsidian even made note of it ( https://twitter.com/...369313946206208 ) and it was discussed here on the EA forums and the previous bioboards forever. Pretty sure if there is a problem, they would have had the opportunity to say something by now. ( in fact if they complain now it would be kind of lame because they had ample opportunity to see what was being done, and remakes like this are often done by fans. )

But then I would be surprised if anyone playing this hasn't already purchased Baldur's gate at some point ( or even purchased more than one copy of it just to get a DRM free version )

Regardless of it possibly crossing some lines, which it probably does, even when those lines are crossed they are well within the Hasbro family and any payment is going into the exact same coffers, and for as long as I've been here, the official response has always been supportive of these sorts of these sort of efforts.
