In the last month, I've seriously gotten into the Dragon Age series after receiving copies of DA: Origins, Awakening, and DA2 for my X-Box 360. Even though I know it gets a lot of hate online (both here and elsewhere), I honestly love the living hell out of DA2 and have been wondering whether or not the last DLC "Mark of the Assassin" is worth getting to expand the DA2 story or even just add more content with the characters (I already picked up the Legacy DLC and really enjoyed its plot and world building, in addition to the challenging combat and new darkspawn), However, it seems like that that particular DLC has a sizable divide between those who like it and those who don't, so I'd just like to get some opinions from those that played it on if its worth the download.

Also, quick question: I have heard that this DLC can cause game saves to become corrupt on the PS3 version. Does that same issue exist on the X-Box 360 release as well? (if it does, then I don't wanna chance messing up my saves just to play it)

I too love the hell out of DA2. I thought the premise and the new character in Mark of the Assassin were dumb and somewhat asynchronous with the rest of the Dragon Age story's flow and feel. I definitely disapprove of the music. However, there are some great battles that introduce some appealing elements, such as the Orlesian Harlequin/court enemies, and the architecture, which may prelude DA Inquisition.

I haven't had any issues with the XBox 360 version or corrupted saves. As to whether or not to get it, I'm going to say "Yay".

Most people who dislike Mark of the Assassin do so because of the new party member, Tallis, who's available only for the DLC. She's a bit odd-looking — the weird mix of Felicia Day and "DA2 elf" pushes her into the uncanny valley (and I happen to like the DA2 elves, so that's saying something). And you'll end up helping her whether you like her or hate her, which rankles some people. The story doesn't offer a lot of good reasons for Hawke's involvement beyond and some people don't like the stealth section.

On the other hand, I found Tallis fairly amusing and she can pull off a pretty effective cross-class combo in concert with a mage who can render enemies brittle. The environments are all nice, there are some new creatures that only appear in MotA, and there's a lot of really funny moments. I especially love the dinner party section, where you might recognize a few NPCs from Origins.

There's some really good loot to be found. Just like Legacy, it's tied to your level, but there are also special quest items for every one of your party members (except Merrill, for some inexplicable reason). The end boss is also a lot less hair-pullingly frustrating than Corypheus.

I would encourage you to purchase it, especially if you already enjoy DA2 and liked Legacy.

It's not as relevant to Hawke and the DA2 story as Legacy was, but it's nicely structured and well written and has some amusing new enemies (I hope those little guys come back in Inquisition), decent loot, and fun vanity mechanics (a bit of stealth and intrigue going on throughout).

It's not perfect, but I liked it and have no problem recommending it. You may wish to bring along Aveline and Isabela, at least the first time through (like Anders, Varric, and the twins in Legacy, these two have a bit more content when you bring them along vs. the other companions).

I really liked the stealth section.

Honestly, I'd say get it. For me, if I like a series, I get all the DLCs, no matter what.

I did specify that 'some' disliked it, not all. I enjoyed it a fair bit, though I really wish the items you got weren't specifically for rogue Hawkes.

I think it's worth it.

IMO it makes the most sense story-wise in Act 2.

Aveline and Isabella get their own special quests. Isabella's is pretty skippable though if you have the item pack DLCs.

IMO you'll want at least half you party capable of ranged attack. The Sky Horror, Wyverns and final boss seem much easier to fight from range.Tallis is already ranged. Also bring a Maker's Sigh and some accessories for Tallis (her weapons are unique like Varric's so don't worry about them), and lots of health/elfroot potions.

When fighting the Sky Horror, have one ranged attacker near the altar and one near the entrance, while the other two party members handle the adds on either side. The idea is to trigger the Sky Horror's PBAOE attack, then run the hell away from it before it can hit. Do not let it use its ranged spell!

It feels a bit of a miss step as a dlc as it has a heavy focus on establishing the Tallis character and does nothing to advance the personal story of the PC, which certainly feels abandoned at this point. It does feel a bit similar to the kasumi dlc for ME2, with the exception that Kasumi knows her place as a companion whereas Tallis didn't get that memo. I do find Felica Days VA quite jarring, as she sounds completely at odds with everyone else in the cast.

While the DA2 dlcs address a lot of problems with the vanilla game and they are all the better for it.
The dlcs however further exacerbate one problem with the game, which is a lack of choice that the PC has, as you end up helping Tallis whether you want to or not. Even at the end you just have to let her go.
*edit*:The save file corruption on PS3 i have experience of, but don't know if it affects X-box.

Personally I liked it a lot, and actually more so than Legacy. Partly that's because I'm a sucker for heist stories, but also because it had Orlesians and Qunari, both of which I wanted to know more about. It's got some fairly challenging fights, and the stealth section, if not perfect, is at least something different. You get some cute new banters with party members, if you're interested in the extra character content. As people have said, though, how much you like Tallis can play a part - some people found her annoying.

Not worth it, wait for it to go on sale then buy it, but it isn't worth $10.

Depends what you play for.

In it's favour, it is a nice change of pace. This DLC was written to address the criticism that Hawke solve every problem by hitting it with her sword. This one has stealth sections, conversation quests and puzzles galore, if that's your thing. It's also handy for breaking up a tedious/combat-intense act. It's also very pretty with unique locations and fights as challenging as any in the vanilla game.

On the downside the plot leaves a lot to be desired, not least the fact that you are rather railroaded. The main character is potentially interesting, though many people consider her a Mary Sue in her own fanfic. The puzzles are fun but silly for anyone who likes realism in their games.

And the accents... Dear Christ, the accents... *shudder*

In short, it's a bit of fun, but I won't be playing it in my canon playthrough.

Definite 'yay'. If only to hear Tallis' nug call.

If you like Felicia Day before you played Mark of the Assassin, you'll love Mark of the Assassin.

I may be one of the people who don't particularly love stealth games/stealth sections, and the game mercifully allows you to avoid it if you'd prefer just getting back to playing Dragon Age II. The items you pick up are pretty spiffy, and Tallis' tree is pretty awesome.

I don't get why people get hung up on the accents, they gave me a sense of place. When I did my runthrough of Dragon Age II, I met Leliana here in Mark of the Assassin for the first time, I didn't see her again until the game's ending. I don't know if that's because of choices I made in Origins or not.

I got MotA mostly because I really enjoyed the story content of Legacy. Unfortunately, while an enjoyable diversion with some interesting side quests, and some funny moments (try finding the skeleton under smelly cheese during the hunt part of the DLC), the story does play out like a fanfic of the *Cough* Marysue *Cough* elf character, Tallis. The intro itself is annoying as hell, considering she isn't nearly up to my regular companions' skill in ACTUAL gameplay and seems competent only when she's protected by plot armor.

However, if you are curious about Qunari, some pretty good gems can be gleaned about their society from someone with a perspective on the 'inside' and I found it was a lot better playing out in Act 3 after Hawke was named "Basalit-an" by the Arishok.

I thought it was a nice throwback to Dragon Age: Origins. It has a nice variety of quests, including maps that are a bit larger and have a mix of combat, conversation, puzzles and at least a few different directions to go in. The plot is unmemorable, and as others have said, you're sort of guest-starring in an episode of "The Adventures of Tallis the Elf," but that didn't really bother me at all. It was still a welcome relief to Mages vs Templars.

Totally. However, it took me a while to get her name right. I think I called her Veronica for about a month straight.

I've heard that having Legacy/Mark of the Assassins causes some bugs in your save files, so I skipped the Legacy DLC for DAII, has that been fixed?

I've played Legacy multiple times and have yet to have any problems with it, so I'm pretty sure it's okay.
