Hey! So im brand new here and i was wonderding something of the BSN!

With all the speculation about DA:I what do you prefer? A silent Warden or a vocal Hawke?

From a Role Playing side im very character driven so my favourite thing about DA2 was that Hawke had a voice, it completed the character for me actually getting to hear the character speak the dialouge you chose (although it was often very different from what the written options said) but on the flip side the Warden had so much more to say and way more interaction and control. I really hope The Inquisitor has a voice though ^_^

So i dunno, just putting it out there! what do you prefer?

(apologies if there is something like this already)

This has the potential to be interesting. Voiced PC, all the way.

The Inquisitor will be voiced. Confirmed by David Gaider, the head writer of the Dragon Age series.

I personally prefer silent. I rarely like the voice I have to use with voiced PCs, I usually have to design my character so the voice will fit with him/her, there are more options with a silent PC, and I have no issue reading the voice in my head in my desired tone.

Voiced PC may add more emotion to a scene, but sometimes said emotion isn't going to be what you want your character to be feeling.

But that's just, like, my opinion, man.

I definitely prefer a silent PC, but would be happy with an option to mute just the PC during cutscenes and read the subtitles. Male Hawke's voice was so irritating, and don't even get me started on the pathetic facial expressions - whoever was responsible for that should have been fired.

The debate is useless.

Bioware has decided to go with a voiced PC. Debating it now is like headbutting a brick wall. Your just going to get a headache.

Hell ever bringing it up again is essentially useless, unless bioware decides to stop making 'cinematic experiences'.

Vocal.

I'm sorry, but a silent protagonist just doesn't work with the style of presentation Bioware uses these days. It works fine as long as the viewpoint is fairly zoomed out and your character isn't really a focus (see BG1/2, NWN, etc) but once you're doing face shots of the character for long lengths of time and cinematic style cutscenes, having a mute looks kind of silly.

For this game, yes, it's useless. But BioWare is known for listening to their consumer's oppinion and sometimes implementing things in later games.
I very much doubt that they will ever return to that format, but I will continue to express my support for Silent Protagonists.

Here are some examples of silent characters who did it right:

I prefer voiced. And I'm getting what I want. Really, isn't that the important thing?

The Nameless One has a voice, though. It's not used all that often, granted, but he's got one.

The problem with consumer opinion is that when it comes to voiced versus silent the consumer base is pretty much split. So which half of the consumer base does Bioware listen to? The same with other options that gamers want. There is no definitive answer so the choice is left to Bioware.

Silent because we have much more options to create our character voice is not worth losing ability to create our hero with with different personalities not only 3 personalities like in DA 2. I prefer freedom in creating my character than voiced hero and only 3 ways to play character.

Sopa warden have voice too but is never used in dialogues like nameless one voice.

The silent protagonist is going the way of the dodo in mainstream.

Fortunately - this Kickstarter stuff has created a slew of independent designers.

You dishonor them sir.

@OP

I don't mind voiced or silent. So long as a voiced character doesn't speak contrary to what I am role-playing them as.

P.S

Almost forgot to mention the hero of the expansions packs for Neverwinter Nights!!

I prefer voiced protagonists. Makes it feel like my character is more there. If that makes any sense. Maybe I wouldn't mind silent protagonists if they just "spoke" more often. The Warden and the main character from Skyrim stood there awkwardly without "saying" anything for quite a long time and it was really immersion breaking for me personally.

True. There are some characters who had a voice but didn't use it to an extent where they would be classified as fully voiced. And I prefer even these types of protagonists to the voiced ones.

Isaac Clarke in the first Dead Space grunted a lot and The Nameless One updated his journal more times than one can count.

Sometimes people just want to talk. Not every thread has to be a request to Bioware.

Bio does it's own thing, if it happens to match with some fans requests so be it.

I much prefer a silent PC to voiced, but there is a time when you must accept reality. Bioware are enamoured with the 'cinematic experience', as long as this infatuation continues, voiced PC will be what bioware goes with.

If you want an RPG you go to inxile(WL2/Torment) or Obsidian(P:E).

If you want a cinematic story with RPG elements, you go to Bioware.

Voiced. But please, PLEASE, let the dialogue that I choose be exactly what the Inquisitor speaks.

I really miss the ability to choose soundsets like in DAO too, but that's another story...
