Voiced protagonist, nuff said. Playing as a mute does not mean it's more immersive.

I definitely prefer a silent PC, but would be happy with an option to mute just the PC during cutscenes and read the subtitles. Male Hawke's voice was so irritating, and don't even get me started on the pathetic facial expressions - whoever was responsible for that should have been fired.

Male Hawke's voice was fine. Stop nitpicking. Pathetic facial expressions? I don't see it, it was pretty good. Just because you found the expressions in the game to be pathetic, does not mean you have the right to order someone to get fired for something YOU found to your disliking.

Voiced. But please, PLEASE, let the dialogue that I choose be exactly what the Inquisitor speaks.

That's more adventure game territory.

Nope, not really. I see you're new here, I bet you just joined the "hate Hawke" bandwagon for no apparent reason, obviously.

I prefer voiced protagonists. Makes it feel like my character is more there. If that makes any sense. Maybe I wouldn't mind silent protagonists if they just "spoke" more often. The Warden and the main character from Skyrim stood there awkwardly without "saying" anything for quite a long time and it was really immersion breaking for me personally.

You can't bring Skyrim into this, sorry, but you can't. TES always had a silent protagonist because there's just so much dialogue and writing, that it would literally take years and more resources to have a voiced protagonist for each race and how they'd sound, not to mention the genders and whatnot. So don't bring Skyrim or Oblivion, or Morrowind, or Daggerfall, or any of the TES games into this discussion. Because TES is a wholly different game than DA. <_<

Silent. Because every VA that Bioware has gotten to voice the protagonist has been ****ing awful.

It doesn't matter how different the games are, my personal preference is a voiced protagonist and that's not gonna change. Will I ever get what I'd prefer? Probably not, but that won't change anything.

I don't care for silent protagonist, they usually come off as very passive. I like voiced protagonist a whole lot better.

If the protagonist is silent, everybody else had better be too.

I will only accept a silent protagonist if every single cutscene is mimed in the comedic slapstick style of the LEGO videogames.

I did not ORDER "someone to get fired," I simply said that they should have been fired...obviously my opinion. Everybody is entitled to their opinion...even you. Don't be so defensive...it's unbecoming. Posted Image

There was a poll a couple of years back. I believe over a thousand people voted and it was split fairly evenly with Voiced just edging out Silent.

Silent for me. I have yet to seen a case where having a voiced protagonist enhanced the roleplaying experience for me. But even in non roleplaying games i tend to prefer a silent protagonist due to the better immersion it offers, for example Bioshock vs Bioshock: Infinite.

However, there are games that a voiced protagonist really adds to the experience of the game. But they are mainly the old point-and-click adventure games by Lucas arts. For example Dominic Armato as Guybrush Threepwood is magnificent in his comedic timing and really enhances the game.

I prefer silent. I still read all the lines and i can pick from several voices in my head.I don't have problem with voiced protagonist i have problem with paraphrases, this is worse think in games ever. I hate say i love cake and then kill someone. it's much easier understand emotion then you can read full line. I don't have problem understand sarcasm, joke, flirt, then i have full sentences. Pictures helped in DA2 but still it's not the same.

I agree that paraphrasing of the dialogue choices is a lot more harmful to the roleplaying experience than the protagonist having a voice. You should never, ever, be surprised by what the character you are roleplaying is saying only the responses of the NPC's.

I personally prefer silent. I rarely like the voice I have to use with voiced PCs, I usually have to design my character so the voice will fit with him/her, there are more options with a silent PC, and I have no issue reading the voice in my head in my desired tone.

Voiced PC may add more emotion to a scene, but sometimes said emotion isn't going to be what you want your character to be feeling.

But that's just, like, my opinion, man.

This.

I used to dislike voiced protagonists. ME and DA2 turned me around on that. Bioware has a good record of excellent voice work in their games, and I'm looking forward to hearing the protagonists new voice.

I just hope it's not Paul Ruebens....

Silent without a doubt. While I don't hate a voiced character, since Mass Effect is one of my most favorite games...EVER, I definitely like a silent protagonist better. Since I always make my main characters out to be stoic badasses in my mind. B)

I usually prefer silent protagonists. but I loved MaleShep and FemShep because Claudio Moneta and Cinzia Massironi have great voices. I played Maleshep only for Moneta (Giacomo Zito did a good job too in ME2, since Moneta had an accident and could't voice Shep) and for Jack's romance.

since in DA the voice actors are just english, for me are almost as if the characters are silent. In effect, the only voices I really liked where Morrigan and Alistair, even if sometimes he was a little annoyng.
I just can't really relate to english voices. and I usually have to read the subtitles to undestand something, so I really don't pay attention to what or how are said the things. still, I hated the totally change of voice of femHawke when choosing a different "icon" (I hate those. really hate those)

I really hated the voice in DA2, i wish we had a silent option. I never felt like i could RP because bioware was basically doing the RPing for me. Took me completely out the game.

The voiced vs silent opinions seem pretty split on the most part and bioware can do what they want with their game BUT we are the ones who actually have to buy the thing and i honestly feel adding a silent option would really be a grateful addition for those who prefer to keep the PC silent.

I don't really care, but if Bioware says a voice gets in the way of playing other races, by all means take it out.

Also sarcastic Hawke is 'really' annoying.

Voiced protagonist.

I'm not mute, and neither should my character be. Makes it feel like everyone else is deciding what my character says or did but me. As if all of my party members were obnoxious people who dragged my character along for an adventure and my protag was too shy and soft spoken to be heard over their prattleing.
