Now for the main problem

He's probably taunting and drawing aggro, and his armor sucks. I don't have the Knight Commander's armor, but I'm betting it's better than what he's got. If he's drawing aggro and you're not, swap armor with him.

my play through I used morigan more on the lines of a healer/AOE and when it came to a tough spot could switch her to her animal forms. If your able to get spirit healer specilization i suggest letting morigan have that if you plan on using her.

I dun see anything wrong. Alistar as a tank (or any substitutes for that matter) will not be very tough before the 15% mark. Im guessing you are pumping str for his armour and not concentrating on dex. Early game chars are limited by the attributes and talents are available to them anywayz. Give him time to shine.

While waiting for that to happen, I can see that you have Shale. You can try this: Let Alistair take some combat heat at the beginning of combat. When hes hp is running low, get Shale into Alistair's vicinity and taunt. ie Shale as a off tank. Heal Alistair up asap and taunt some aggro from Shale if needed. A kind of cycle taunt strategy. Try it if you think it make sense.

There's only Knight Commander Plate (chest) armor afaik, and I'm assuming you modded off restrictions because normally it should be restricted to Templar specialization (which from your post your MC doesn't have yet). Visually, Knight Commander's Plate and Templar Armor have boots, but they don't actually fill the boot slot.

Your gear is pretty good for level 8. Helm of Honnleath is imba and will easily last you to the end of the game.

As mosspit said, it's normal for your tank to not be a great tank in the early levels. Get enough strength for decent armor then pump DEX.

For Morrigan (or any mage for that matter), you're probably going to want some crowd control spells.

Cone of Cold is very good (you can freeze enemies for a good amount of time with it), Forcefield is very good (since Morrigan already comes with Mind Blast you can get it pretty quickly) as a utility spell: you can lock out enemy bosses while you deal with the weaker enemies around it, or you can save one of your party members from a grab or overwhelm, or you can be really cheesy and Taunt with your tank and then forcefield him and then pick off the enemies around.

Sleep can be good. Walking bomb can be good with some foresight (i.e. don't let the walking bomb explode in the middle of your party). Fireball is good.

It's also a good idea to get basic heal on all your mages. It's tier 1 and useful.

There are a number of other very useful spells, depending on what you're going for.

Glyphs can be good if you use them right. Glyph of Warding gives you 30 defense while you stand in it! Not to mention the paralysis explosion you get when you combine Glyph of Repulsion with Glyph of Paralysis.

Mana clash absolutely devastates mages.  But then again it's tier 4.

Crushing Prison is great on mages as well, but somewhat lackluster against bosses and other highly ranked creatures.

Really, it's very hard to go wrong with a mage.  Even just picking spells based on what sounds cool will net you at least a few very good abilities, more than enough to make the mage useful.  There is a great amount of utility available to a mage.  Its one weakness is physical frailty, and even then, the Arcane Warrior spec can address that and trivialize it.

I don't know a thing about Shale.  Used her (it) once.

Ah that's Warden Commander Gear, not Knight Commander. Consider looking into Knight Commander's Plate for Alistair (or your MC); it's tier 6 massive armor with 40% spell resist (which is amazing).

At any rate, Heal on Morrigan along with health pots should help Alistair be more durable on early levels. Regeneration is also useful if you're willing to get it. Or throw down a glyph of warding where Alistair will be standing. These options really are limited because at level 8, Morrigan doesn't have a lot more than her starting spells. Low level characters have fairly limited options; just don't expect Alistair to be a beast at level 7, or for Morrigan to have all the best spells. Or try to split up the aggro between all you warrior characters.

Oh I forgotten there is a "11th" spell combination in case you dunno. <jk> it is activated by Taunt + Forcefield and it is called "Cheesy Auto-Win". </jk> heh

Seriously, with this you can have a nug as a tank. It feels like cheating but it is something you can rely on for the last resort. If mages have dispel magic, replace that nug asap.

I use Morrigan quite a lot when my main is a warrior/rogue build. With horror, sleep and nightmare (plus her ice line of spells) she will bring groups of mobs to their knees (just set tactics on Mori to use sleep and nightmare to whatever the tank has targeted)... also curse of mortality line. Wynn with glyph of paralysis rebound combo (PC controlled). At level eight I still find CC to be strong.

edit currently playing an archer build no tank, just Oghren with Star Fang 2 hander zero taunt required, Mori Wynn on hard and it is a cake walk. Ogren has a full set of Legion of the Dead (I think it is called).

Hmmmm, where's your rogue? I would consider swapping Alistair out for Leliana or Zevran and tank yourself. I have played a tank as a 2h and a dw warrior; as long as your dex is reasonable, it's doable since your PC has the best stats. Rogues are the best single target damage in the game, and the sooner the mobs die, the less chance the tank has of dying. As it is, you have three tanks -- 2 really should be enough.

I'd agree with ejoslin there and there is the adittional fact that you can't open a lot of things without a rogue in your party, for that unless you have a mod to change theire abilities Lil comes with 2 ranks of open locks already in place and Zev has none.

You can always just give Zev deft hands first time he levels.  I never understood why people make such a huge issue that he doesn't come with it since it's so easy to give him one rank of it.  If you make him a high cunning rogue, all you need is one rank anyway.

I usually play the rogue myself and bring him along for the poison making .  there are just some of the locks you need a high lock skill for and it is easier to get ther with Lil because she starts with some or if you build your own up from the start.  I like Zevran a lot he's a great characther and the conversations he has with the other party members are great.

Not sure how the tactics system works with the consoles, but I used to run into Alistair biting the dust alot early on with some of my play-thrus and what I did was set his tactic to have him pop a healing potion at 50% or less. Seeing that you don't have Morrigan as a healer the auto potion tactic is definitely a good thing to get.

I have this problem also and will go back to an area just to open up what I could't get into The first time around.  Most of the time it is nothing special, but it is extra experience for picking that lock.
