I'm having a super hard time choosing which one of these two I should romance in my final playthrough of Dragon Age Origins in preparation for Dragon Age Inqusition.  Which one would be a better romance storywise - Morrigan or Leliana?

Storywise? Morrigan absolutely.

Emotionally I thought Morrigan's friendship went more deep than her romance.

Completely agree. Her reaction when she realizes that the Warden truly doesn't want anything more from her is absolutely heartbreaking. She literally had no idea a man could be kind to her without wanting to jump her.

On the other hand, (not) romancing Morrigan has a much stronger impact on her storyline than it does for Leliana. So if you're looking to alter the events of DAI I think romancing Morrigan will have more interesting results.

For what it's worth, remember that the Witch Hunt DLC deals with Morrigan after DA:O. It has unique dialogue for people who romanced her.

Morrigan has more impact on the story than Leliana's romance (for Origins) though anything is possible in Inquisition, considering Leliana is 1) Orlesian-raised and 2) Still around in various scenes in DA2, presumably 3 as well. I've never been able to complete Morrigan's romance, though I have romanced her to a point (and one time glitched with the romance active at the end--getting the romance ending--though I had broken it off). I love her reaction to a male who doesn't want her in that way, so for me the friendship worked so much better.

No telling what will happen in Inquisition.

Flemeth is an anchor character for the franchise. By extension, Morrigan will likely have an important role going forward. She has a link to the eluvians, which were a hefty subplot in DA2.

Leliana has been in both games and I believe one of the novels, and got her own DLC. (Witch Hunt, although billed as Morrigan's DLC, contains very little actual Morrigan content.) I rate the chances of her appearing in DA:I in some capacity as high, although not as high as Morrigan's.

What kind of story appeals to you? I'd bet doughnuts to dollars that Morrigan will continue her themes of solitary, safe power vs. love (platonic or romantic) that renders you vulnerable. Leliana will be tied into issues of Chantry doctrine and tradition vs. her own vision of a loving Maker and an individual's authority to interact with him. She may yet become the cross between St. Joan and Martin Luther that she seemed poised to be in DAO, and that could have huge ripples in the future of the franchise.

tl;dr: If the Chantry vs. templars vs. mages thing interests you, go Leliana. If the crazy magic "change is coming" portals to other worlds stuff interests you, go Morrigan.

Morrigan, if you're in it for the long run. She develops the most out of all the relationships-- not to mention nothing is more strong a bond than an actual child. I always romance her when I play a male Warden. And that Morrigan's Ring bit is just too adorable. I don't think Zev or Leliana do anything like that.

Leliana has a lot of things going on in her life after DAO (faith, Orlais), while Morrigan seems focused on the child. I expect big things from her in DAI.

Zevran gives you an earring. It doesn't have a tracking spell on it (Zevran can't make one), but it means a lot to him.

why settle for just 1? If you have all the DLC romance Leiliana first then get Morrigan later. I know in some of my later playthrus I had characters that would get Alistair, then Leiliana, and end up with Zevran. Those ladies had belts and like to cut notches but it was always the Assassin that would put an *end* to that.

its just an option you may not have considered.

Depends on what sort of Hero you want to play. If your Warden wants to be the Hero who goes through Origins, rights wrongs, falls in love with the girl, kills the archdemon, then picks the girl over his shoulder and rides off in to the sunset, Lelilana is definitely the girl for your Warden. Depending on your dialogue choice after the coronation, she seems to enjoy the prospect.

If you're looking for a darker love story where the two lovers know that their choices will have truly terrible consequences, go with Morrigan. Flemeth's tale intertwines with the story of the Wardens and Hawke, and we imagine it will be equally as important for the third Hero...whoever they are. Morrigan is irresistible, infuriating, and confusing - but what real relationship isn't?

Here's the real choice -
Morrigan's love for the Warden will transform the world of Fereldan around them (Morrigan eventually says that you will "make history" together). Leliana's love for the Warden will strengthen the two together despite everything that happens in the world around them.

Morrigan is the "default" Romance. Is like Ashley on ME. And Leliana is like Liara... Makes sense when you think about it.
