Now all the fanatical FFVII fans who have never even played the game can play for a few hours only to realize the graphics are dated as hell and the gameplay sucks balls.

There are some great mods for it.

Though to be fair, Deus Ex looks like balls, but I'd still freaking play the crap out of it xD

But, Deus Ex gameplay > FFVII.

If you play the game having its age in mind and can enjoy the nostalgia about that, the graphics really do not matter.

Random encounters are part of FFVII and if you are not into that the game is not for you. So is turned based combat for that matter and yes, battle goes at a MUCH slower pace then most 'modern' games.

It's also a Final Fantasy game. They aren't particularly popular here.

They aren't?

You wrongfully assume I'm a twitch gamer.

I love turn-based gameplay and can often enjoy JRPGs (provided I can slosh through the typical overly emotional, self-indulgent plot and nonsensical settings Japanese writers seem to love). FFVII is simply not that great a JRPG. The controls were clunky as hell, to get the best spells you had to sit through hours of chocobo ****ing, there was that stupid mandatory RTS thing and the materia system is simply a half-arsed version of the system used in FFV.

FFIV, V and VI are better.

Those XIII threads seemed lively enough.

Doesn't every singe FF fan's comment end this way? "All the games before this one were good, then suddenly and inexplicably FF went to sh*t in one fell swoop."

Ah I see. A select few eh? I guess JRPGs are the black sheep on here.

For the most part, yes. It's more about nudity/romance/grimdark/SEX/THEWITCHER

FF I - III are nothing special.

FFVII was pretty much when the series started to significantly drop in quality and where Square's priorities drifted elsewhere. IX was ok I suppose but I never finished it.

Not meaning to offend you there GodWood.

Do not share the general opinion either that FFVII is the best game in the series. Bought it long after it came out because was not interested in before. Got it at some point to make my collection complete but when I played it it was alright and did enjoy it.

Well at least you're admitting the first few aren't the best. That's something I suppose.

Though I don't know if I'd agree that their priorities shifted elsewhere, unless you mean elsewhere WITHIN the FF series (as in from story to graphics or some such).

FFV? That was awful! The antagonist was boring, the plot paper thin and Bartz had really nothing going for him. The only good character died 3/4 in.

Noticed that too.

To each his own but I played a lot of them. Good to see that they become more available on pc now instead of only being released on console and mostly PS exclusive.

I have to admit, I do love it--it's like when the renegades get fighting over social issues. Everyone's mostly on the same side but they'll fight more viciously over the specifics (VIII was a turd in game form! VII was the one high point of the series!) than any one of them argues with FF haters.

FFVII was when FF games started focusing more and more on cinematics.

The story was **** but the gameplay had some clever ideas and was pretty fun.

$12 for a 15 year old PS1 game? It's not even enhanced or anything is it other than the achievements?

I would say the hate for 13 is warranted but for jrpgs? I don't get it. Whenever someone mentions a jrpg people scoff at it.

Yeah I don't get that either. Gamers are missing out on some quality experiences

I've never really liked JRPG's, the only one I've bought is Ni No Kuni, which is awesome, but Final Fantasy never really stood out.
