I used to really like JRPGs back in the days of PS1 but now I can't stand the damn grinding, clunky gameplay and non-sensical manga plots.
I'm not holding my breath but I really hope Square Enix take some lessons from BioWare, CD Projekt RED and other western RPGs developers for XV.
XV will be very action, so you may get your wish. There won't even be turn combat. In addition, it's based on modern times--there are cars and such. Same basic basic idea, setting-wise, as FF XIII.
I personally don't want them to (take lessons from westerners) in some ways, like the I NEED BOOBS AND HEADS CHOPPED OFF FOR THIS STORY TO BE SRS that seems to pervade this place.

This is why more often than not it is better for JRPGs to have plots that don't take themselves too seriously. 'Serious' Japanese writing is usually quite terrible.
Better yet more Westerners should make JRPGs. Cthulhu Saves the World is a better JRPG than pretty much every modern Final Fantasy game.
That's certainly debatable. I personally enjoyed XIII immensely. Cthulhu is fun, but that's all it is: fun. I want more purpose in my gameplay. A serious story, like FF XIII has (or even something like VII, though on a lower level), is thought provoking. It isn't just hedonism.
It all depends on what you're looking for.
