Why is Sony so sure they will be making 3 more Amazing Spider-Man films?

The first one sucked and had a divided audience. A lot of people seem to like it but then a lot of people thought it sucked (including me) and it had medicore reviews. It seems real premature to say that they will be making 4 films what if Amazing Spider-Man 2 bombs or doesn't do as well as the original? I doubt they would go ahead with a third one

Money talks, not critics and filmgoers. Spider-Man movies will keep coming out as long as they keep showing Sony the money.

Sony wants to make as much money off of Spiderman as quickly as they can. I wonder when the movie rights run out.

They want to keep the movie rights from going to Marvel (and therefore Disney). They're going to make garbage films forever (and by forever I mean as long as they can bankroll them) to show the middle finger to Disney.

Sony will try to churn out as many Spider-Man movies as they can to make money. I don't know the exact details of the rights deal, but I would assume that there is some sort of requirement for them to make a Spider-Man movie every five years or Marvel gets the rights back. That won't happen until Superhero films start to seem stale, which could be never, but I'm willing to bet we start to see some slowdown after Avengers 3 or when DC fails at doing Justice League.

Because all Spider-man movie's (so far) had made lots of money for them.

As long as they keep making them they get to keep the license. Same with fox and the X-men/mutants. Given what The Avengers did I doubt Sony or Fox will be letting go of those franchises given they are some of the biggest names or they would make Disney pay thru the nose to get them back..
