Have waited a long time for FFXIII to arrive and when it finally did was extremely dissapointed. The fact that I anticipated so long for it was making the turn off even bigger.
Otherwise get games when there is more known about them. Only get them when I am sure that I will like them.
Name the games that disappointed you the most.

Final Fantasy X. Heard so many good things about it, and found almost nothing to like about it besides the music.

Civ 5: I've made stuff on Microsoft Paint with better graphics.
DA 2: Never preordering again.
Total Annihilation Kingdoms: Those of you old enough will remember how disappointing this sequel was.

Mass Effect 3. For reasons already mentioned.
Fable 3. Just what. They managed to make a game similar to Fable 2 yet so much worse.

Assassin's Creed 3
And not really disappointed, but got boring quickly:
Mass Effect(the first one), because of the reused areas of assignments and exploration.

Final Fantasy X-2
AirMech
Raiderz
WarZ
Kingdom of Amalur: Reckoning
Dragon Nest
SWTOR(after it went F2P)
LoL(I know, I just tought it would be so much more the way players rave about it.)
Fallout NV( In my opinion Fallout 3 was ay better)
I could go on forever listing games that disappointed me.

Ultima 8 (after Ultima 7 this was a "wtf" game; I still play it from time to time because I like the magic system, but the insta-death collapsing floors still induce rage)
Ultima 9 (oh, what could have been; I play this from time to time as well)
F3AR (not scary; not enough Alma, don't care about the brothers; didn't finish it)
ME1 (side mission planets; love the rest of the game)
ME2 (beginning cutscenes, Awakening - the beginning of Shepard's ME3 stupidity)
ME3 (so much cringe-worthy dialog)
Dragon Age 2 (managed to finish it once; haven't replayed. Not pre-ordering DA:I)
Dreamfall (the sequel is very late)
Diablo III (looked forward to it until offline singleplayer was nixed; don't regret my decision to take Blizzard off my list of developers to watch)
Edit: Alpha Protocol (Timed dialog timed out before I could read my potential responses - this game was made for metagamers so I uninstalled it. Thankfully I got it for $2 on a Steam Sale. It might be worth that.)

Guildwars 2 - Waste of money and time. one of the most boring games i played in recent years. stopped playing once my character hit level 19. its all a lackstar grindfest. lame story. no immersion.
Mortalonline- worst purchase in my gaming history. payed 55$ for a game i played for an unplayable game .
Mass effect 3- and not because its a bad game, because it isnt. its a good game with a terribile story if you are invested. and after me1 and me2 i was very invested.

I'm not disappointed by games often, because I'm very careful with what I buy. I guess I could say Final Fantasy VII was a minor minor disappointment because I was expecting the game to be like the second coming of the Lord Himself. It was still fun though.

I tend to be super easy-going about games, movies etc., so not many have really disappointed me, except one.
DA2 - yeah, everything we can say about that $60 kick in the nuts has been said already. C'est la vie.
I guess Oblivion was pretty dire in many ways, but meh - just made the best of it and enjoyed the hunting.
Expected Doom 3 to be a bit faster and more exciting, but in the end it was OK.
Dead Space - I just don't get what people liked about this game - but only "disappointing" inasmuch as I read good reviews first.
UT3, Might & Magic IV... Meh
Far Cry 2... yeah disappointing but the oddest thing: I never uninstalled it, and still play it for 10 minutes every now and then, even now.
I suppose Command & Conquer's death and AC:M were the closest to DA2's majesty.

Mass Effect(1) because of the horrible combat and reused enviroments
The Witcher well not very dissapointed because my expectations weren't high to begin with, but it was terrible
Uncharted 3:A very good game but it is dissapointing compared to Uncharted 2
Halo 3:before playing it i had heard that Halo is great, after playing it felt like nothing special (LOL at least i didn't buy it because i don't have a 360)
Gears of War 3:I really liked the first 2 but not the 3rd,we didn't even finish it
Bioshock Infinite:it bored me to hell
there are more but who cares

Fable 3, the main villain wants to cover the world in black oily goo? Is this an environmental message? My unwanted dog won't let me take the enemy by surprise, and I seriously have to take a fully grown man by the hand?!
Mass Effect 3: Read my forums if you can't figure that one out.

In recent memory, Skyrim. The way I listened closely to interviews set unrealistic expectations. I can hardly fault the game for that, though.
There's also Dead Rising 2, GTA 4, Homefront, Duke Nukem Forever, and Battlefield 3.
I guess, when I'll finally get around to playing it, Mass Effect 3 will be on that list.

1. Sonic Heroes - Inferior to Sonic Adventure 2 in almost every imaginable way, this was my first experience with a soul crushingly bad sequel.
2. Metroid Other M - Had too many poorly acted cut scenes, nonsensical plot devices, and abandoned subplots. The camera was a more dangerous foe than any alien in the game.
3. Resident Evil 5 - Not scary enough to be a decent survival horror game, controls and AI too poorly designed to be a decent action game, Resident Evil 5 didn't really do anything well.
4. Dragon Age II - An overly linear plotline, and poorly designed side dungeons made this game feel rushed, while the skydiving enemy units and needless button mashing took most of the fun out of the combat.
5. Diablo 3 - Really now Blizzard? Why did you think it would be a good idea to create Maghda in the first place, let alone have her kill Deckard Cain? He deserved better than to be killed off by some flower fairy out of a calendar from Barnes and Noble. Also, the third and fourth acts had far too little substance.
6. Mass Effect 3 - I enjoyed most of this game, but the fetch quests seemed like they were only there to pad the length of the game without adding any value, and the explanation of why reapers exist and what their motivations are was so preposterous that it's turned me off from this series more than I had ever thought possible.
7. StarCraft II - This game's multiplayer is almost good enough to make up for it, but the story was an unthinkably awful mess filled with needless ancient alien plot devices and prophecies, cheesy dialogue, and assassinated characters who I used to love in this game's predecessors.
It seems like the only series I've ever been invested in that *hasn't* been ruined by its latest sequels is Fallout. I guess I'm one of the lucky few who loved both Fallout 3 & NV.

Lost: Via Domus
Good pick - I just sort of assumed that it would be somewhat open-world and thought it would be fun to wander around and explore the island if nothing else. Instead I got a rather abbreviated and very linear game with an ending that was off the WTF scale even by Lost standards (and that's saying something!).
Others for me -
Deus Ex - Borderlline heresy, I know. I explain my reasons here: http://social.biowar.../index/16018148
Metro 2033 - Was hoping for more dialogue and interaction with the rest of the world than I got, and I didn't feel like the game really gave me any reason to expect that what I was doing would somehow lead to two different endings. And while there were hints of the supernatural earlier in the game, having Artyom suddenly find himself in what appeared to be a full-blown alternate reality felt jarring.
Bioshock - The atmosphere of bizarre chaos was very well-executed, as was the setting of Rapture, but the story was a letdown in a couple of ways. First, maybe I was just being dense, but I was confused about what seemed to be disembodied voices in the background - were these recordings being played from somewhere, or was Rapture literally "haunted"? Second, why is it that I can be altruistic enough to save the Little Sisters, but I'm stuck if I refuse to play assassin for Sander Cohen? (I don't *think* my character was being mind-controlled at that point, unless Cohen said "would you kindly" and I just didn't realize the significance of it yet.)

That's pretty much it; generally, I try to keep my expectations pretty realistic for games.
Yeah. I still really enjoyed Infinite, but I can see where people are coming from with some of there issues they have with the game.
I don't have expectations for any game anymore, thank you Mass Effect 3. Recently, Remember Me wasn't what I hoped it would be but I never really expected it to deliver on that anyway.
