So for about 2 months or so I've been replaying Half Life 2 with the cinematic mod 12. tonight I got really into it and played it for about 4 hours and beat it. I think this is probably like the 7 or 8th time I've beat HL2, lol. But it got me thinking, what are my favorite FPS of all time. The genre is so rich and ecompasing its astounding really. But I've narrowed it done to 5. This are my 5. What are your's and why?

1. CS 1.6- this was the game that turned me onto FPS and MP in general. Amazing. It's still fun as hell to play. The greatest FPS maps of all time, skilled gameplay, sharp controls and major competive support make CS 1.6 my favorite shooter ever. I've probably poured over 5000 hour in this game. So, good.

2. Battlefield 2- Again BF was a revelation when 1942 came out, it was unlike anyting I"ve ever played and still today the BF series  is a staple of FPS MP games. In fact I won't be surprised if BF starts to outsell COD, but anyways BF2 is my favorite BF game. I loved this game. Of course Strike to Karkand is probably my favorite map, but the entire game was awesome.

3. Half Life 2. The. Greatest. Single Player FPS of all time. The rage nowadays is Bioshock this and Bioshock that, but HL2 is the best. Still. To bad valve won't ever make HL3 :(:(. And it gave us CSS. Plus 10 points for that.

4. Halo 4. Yep, I said it. Halo 4 is the best Halo game of all time. Easily. It's the best console FPS ever. Again, easily. Love it or hate it, halo is a machine when it comes to FPS. The level design, controls, weapons, and feel is amazing and Halo 4 is the pinnacle of all things Halo. Shockingly great.

5. Battlefield Bad Company 2- The level of disapoint I was when dice said that BFBC 2 is not in the works was immense. I love this game. It's awesome, and in my opinion, the best BF game of this gen.

System Shock 2, and you could argue the Thief Series as an FPS: First Person Sneaker. Doom & Wolfenstein 3D are obvious ones. The Original Half-Life. The original Halo.

Perfect Dark.

That game was way ahead of it's time.
Complex storyline about secret agencies dealing with the moral problem of not only alien life forms, but cooperating with those alien life forms to stop other alien life forms from using hidden ancient alien technology at the center of the earth to destroy the world.

The levels.
Weaponry.
Music.
The overall gaming experience for Perfect Dark, was far beyond that of Goldeneye, which is itself an amazing game btw.
But Perfect Dark was just that...Perfect.

Definitely one of the games that helped define me into the gamer I am today.

Yep. PD is a legendary game ahead of its time that still holds up perfectly well today.

Far Cry 3.

It's free roam with plenty to explore.

Great gameplay and a plethora of enemies.

Story was a fun take on the average guy becoming a killer.

Brilliant voice acting and great characters.

Music is top notch, conveys many emotions in each song.

Stuck between MW2 and Halo 3, tbh.

I have so many memories with the hundreds of hours I put into them.

Oh, hell yes. I loved FC3.

I actually finished it, which is more than I can say for most FPS games.

Although I also loved Resistance (all three of them). I guess it's listed as FPS and third person shooter; whatever that means.

In terms of fun and or affect on me (of the FPS I've tried anyway):

Dark Forces - Star Wars was pretty big at the time and this game captured the feel pretty well. Played it many times.

Doom 2 - though I enjoyed Wolf3D and Doom, I played this one the most, and edited maps my brother and I fragged each other on. Great fun.

Unreal - Loved the atmosphere in this game, and often left the title screen running in demo mode when I was afk. Back then it was some sweet eye candy. I still have it, Return to Na-Pali, and Unreal 2 installed.

Jedi Knight - enjoyed this for the Star Wars theme, and light sabres were fun. Completed it a number of times. Some of the maps were quite enjoyable.

Half Life - difficulty was too brutal for my tastes so I resorted to console usage (I've never had twitch reflexes), but the overall atmosphere of the game always had me feeling surreal.

Half Life 2 - as I've said before, does a good job of making me feel like a rebel in a repressed world.

F.E.A.R. - I laugh through this game, and outside of a couple jump scares that get me when I'm half asleep, I don't see why people are so afraid of it (based on YT videos). I streamed it before and my viewers were wigging out, which cracked me up.

Crysis - I built a computer for this game, and love playing the Korean maps over and over. The rest I don't like so much. Looks pretty good still, but my modded Skyrim looks better.

Haven't really been into getting new FPS. I got F3AR and was quite disappointed.

Have to say Crysis 1 and Warhead.

Awesome'y eye porn (so much in fact that I only just recently played the game because my laptop I had and used before couldn't handle the game, durp), decent gameplay, even had a decent story for a FPS and the freedom of choice to go LEEEEEROOOYYY or Sam Fisher on the enemies.

Awesome game.

Glad to know I'm not the only one who thought that game was a joke - there's honestly not much to fear from F.E.A.R. unless you find the overdone "creepy little girl" cliche to be scary. The game was made by the same people who made Condemned: Criminal Origins, so it's doubly disappointing since Condemned was a pretty legit horror game. I expected better.

So many great games listed above. I forgot how great unreal Tourney 04' was and FEAR and Crysis are, there are so many great FPS. I'd put COD 4 MW probably in my top 15, In my opinion it's the best COD game ever made.
