Rather impressive considering it was up against the likes of Bioshock.  It lost out to the Assassin's Creed series based on that franchise evolving the most from game to game (that is impressive in itself considering it is a yearly release now).

Congrats to Bioware on leaving an impression going into the next gen.

I have to agree, despite stuffing it up, the importance of mass effect in this generation cannot be overstated.

It makes sense to me. In terms of gameplay they were both pretty good with just some minor flaws here and there. Mass Effect had better characters but AC managed to connect their individual instalments much better. Over all, I'd have a hard time telling which of those two I enjoy more but I think with a cohesive story over 5 really enjoyable games, AC has earned to win as a franchise, IMO. Mass Effect is a good second and I'd not put it any further down the list. Congrats BioWare.

Yeah, I don't put much faith in polls. All they are is mass opinion or critic opinion based anyway. That doesn't mean that any game is quantifiably better than the next.

I can see why ME didn't make the top, but I wouldn't put Assassin's Creed up their either

I could be wrong (didn't click on the link), but I'm pretty sure this list is of franchises that were created within this console generation; Fallout's been around since last century.

Nah, Mario is in the list as well. But I agree that the Fallout franchise was not really defined on this console generation. However, the TES franchise could have been mentioned, IMO.

That's nice. What a bad-arse quote from Shepard to pick for the video too. I heard there was some controversy over the AC3 ending too. I played the first AC on my BFs Xbox and found the parkour freerunning across roof tops to be very unpredictable (read: assassin would jump in random directions). But they sold a ton of games too, and some people love all that conspiracy theory stuff that was tied into the games.

Even with the ending Mass Effect was/is a better franchise than Assassin's Creed.

It's actually a valid poll but some of their choices based on their own criteriaI don't really consider "created for this 7th generation".

Is Wii sports really a franchise created for this generation or is it just a collection of mini-games and given that it was bundled in with the Wii?

Galaxy should be right out (and pretty much every comment about this poll agrees). Galaxy is a great game, but Galaxy was the requisite mario game of this generation along with its sequel.

I'm iffy on Batman...true, the arkham series has set a standard for licensed videogames (any developers can't just say "og, it's a licensed game, what did you expect") but Batman certainly is not a new IP.

Based on sales and its affect on the rest of the industry, Gears SHOULD be higher....yeah, yeah, BSN likes to mock it, but Gears has been one of the biggest new IPs this generation.

AC should be on the list and I do think it deserves the top 2 position as much as we might disagree...

The future storyline thing was always just window-dressing, though. It's more like a ****ty resolution to a questline than an ending, since the interesting stories are really about the old world protagonists. AC3 sufferd from Connor's lack of charisma more than anything.

Assassins creed isn't the worst choice, although hardly the best. I'm happy Mass Effect ranked so high though, it is my favourite franchise in gaming.
