Can't Microsoft and Sony sell their systems on hardware merit alone?  I'm not buying a PC, an Xbox One and a PS4 just so I can play all the exclusives.  That's insane.  But as with previous generations, it feels like I'm missing out now and then....

The merits of the hardware that the majority of gamers don't seem to care about and is inferior to PC anyway and always will be?

Good luck with that, let me know how it works out for you.

I'll just be over here, overpowering this terribly inefficient thing I call Windows 7.

Xbox doesn't exactly have a lot of great exclusives; you're not really missing much there.

I want Last of Us on PC tbh, and RDR because it is badass.

Exclusives are pretty much bad for consumers, because they limit game exposure and require you to buy multiple systems.

Oddly enough, though, you'll find people supporting them. I'm currently fighting for Final Fantasy XV to come to the PC and over on the Square Enix forums there are people who genuinely don't want it to come to PC--even though it's on both consoles. That mindset just doesn't make sense to me, unless it's some kind of inferiority complex--gotta have exclusive games on their console to "prove" it's better than others.

Some games have to be exclusives. StarCraft II would just play like crap on consoles.

Just like Starcraft did on the 64....what a waste of money that was.

I figured people wouldn't mind so much by now since it's been a few decades. Guess not.

Its like this. Say all consoles or PC's had the same games, with the same capabilities.

Why would I buy anything other than the cheapest?

As to your problem OP its called

Self

Control.

Learn it before you have a credit card bill when you're older that you will never be able to pay back.

Can't they all just make everything available onto PC? :P

I mean we pay extra for the higher quality and style. Might as well add the access to all games to the list <3

Indeed. Conformity doesn't help a company make money in this business, or any other. Different games provide a way for the console manufacture to be different beyond a price tag.

I don't. The superiority pissing matches that come out of exclusive content are often hilarious.

That.

Though I have to say it is mindboggling how no one ever seemed to have the idea to simply port his console's OS to make it work with everyday PC setups and then enable his console games to be played on a PC provided it runs the aforementioned OS.

I mean, people are homebrewing and emulating since I don't know how long, how comes no one ever tried using that market for profit? There's no reason not to try!

I don't mind exclusives that push the limits of a platform. I rather have that than ports made for the least common denominator. If they do a port then it would be nice to give it some extra attention to exploit the features of a given platform. If not then do not port it at all. Also, I don't have the time to play any game out there, nor am I a collector.

That's funny, because it's the other way around for me. PlayStation hasn't had a single exclusive that has caught my eye, while there have been plenty of Xbox exclusives that I would've been disappointed at missing out on.

It always bothered me that Epic never ever brought the Gears of War series over to the PS3. Microsoft most have paid some serious money to Epic to keep the GOW series exclusive to the XBox and PC. Surely any 3rd party developer would want as many people to play thier games as possible so the logic of picking sides in the consoles wars makes no sense to me.

They're not that bad. They accommodate the hardware they're bound to pretty well.

As they should if they want good performance with those components.

I think if Microsoft themselves publish a game, they have the right to make it exclusive to their console. Same with Nintendo and Sony. Is why Bayonetta 2 is Wii U exclusive, Nintendo is footing the bill for it to even be made at all.

I see it as money I can spend elsewhere. Though I did want to play Red Dead Redemption.

Seriously?  I'm 25.  Two credit cards actually.
Self control is what keeps me from making stupid decisions like buying a PC, an X1 and a PS4.  I was Xbox 360 before, and now I'm going PC.  My point is that I'm missing out and it's frustrating, not that I'll be buying every system.

And if two pieces of hardware are exactly the same, then why shouldn't someone buy the cheapest?  Again, that's my point.  I'd rather them sell their systems based on hardware, rather than software.

Old saying son "Can't have your cake and eat it too" Hell I would LOVE to play the latest Zelda, Mario, and Smashbrother titles. But I get what I can get. Just how it goes.

And thats why they never will. As then it forces them to count on the software market, for example say you have all the games like you want.

Wii-U is say 250, PC is like 1200, X1 is 500, PS4 is 400 (not saying thats the price just going with that as examples) And they all have the same games and can do the same things. Well guess who won't have a job soon. Its a selfish, stupid and frankly destructive idea.
