Greetings!

I wonder if there is a way to extend the stack size for arrows, bullets etc. above 99? Does anyone know how that might work? 99 arrows are shot quite rapidly, I reckon. ;)

Thanks for a hint!

Setting unlimited ammo on bows would do it or using other items such as a magic bag that have a lot in them and would make more sense as over 100 arrows would be pretty hard to carry.

Using an arrow bag is your best bet. It will reload from a bag in preference to your open inventory. The top stack is loaded. You could have ~12,800 arrows in a single bag, which should take care of any point you want to make.

There are advantages to not using unlimited arrows - sometimes you want fire, sometimes you want ice.

Any special arrows - arrows of petrification or detonation, for example - can be kept out of the bag for use only on your personal selection.

Another advantage of the arrow bag is auto-organizing: you can throw in 33 Arrows +1, 24 Arrows +1, 12 Arrows +1; when you load a new module (a saved game or a major area shift), presto, it's now one stack of 69 Arrows +1.

erm. I note now that this is the Builders subforum.

While everything I said above is true, it's player-info. As for raising stack size, baseitems.2da controls it; but I think 99 is the max (hardcoded).

You COULD supply the players with a specific Arrow container with a unique name and picture;  it could even be set to hold only arrows.

Apparently, no. Just tried setting it to 999 and it works in game. It was discussed here.

OP, you need to edit the file "baseitems.2da", and change the number below "container". I don't know if there's a maximum. You can get the 2da file here.

Interesting.  This could lead to some major prestidigitation - throw a couple dozen stacks of arrows in a bag - stir with magic wand (quicksave:reload) - *Presto* one stack of hundreds!  That ought to give those brats kids in West Harbor something to oooh and aaah about.

Is someone getting a little tired of spelling out how to find NWN2 files and winrar them?

I just had the random thought that resetting the stack size on something like a gem would allow you to kludge together some sort of currency system, as in country A uses amethysts, B uses pearls, and C uses topaz. Not sure how it could be useful for more interesting game play, but it would be more realistic than the magic weightless coin purse in use now.

Maybe not gameplay, but it could add interesting flavour. The funny thing is that in the Gold Box AD&D games, where gold does have weight, gems are mentioned in-game to be the preferred lightweight alternative. That's what they get for choosing one of the heaviest naturally-occurring metals on earth as their currency.

I was thinking maybe about using the gems as a sort of "special" currency, that the player uses to buy important, special things, like magic weapons or the favor of an important NPC. Then the gold could be used for more mundane purchases, like medkits and a round at the tavern. It just seems wrong when the player can loot a tomb, unload a priceless artifact at the nearest street stall, and then have more gp than they could ever spend. Likewise, it seems wrong to be able to save up and buy a magic sword just by being stingy on your item use. With the two currencies, the player would have to both kill rats for beer money and then save the princess to get some gems to buy a renowned magic sword. It would also mean a builder could use the gem-currency as a plot threshold, i.e. the player needs 100 gems to advance the plot, and there's 200 gems available scattered across various sidequests.

Well, you don't need to increase the stack size for that. Also, I think gems are weightless in game too, though I guess you can change that.

Great, that's what I was looking for! I'm gonna try that out.

edit: Whoa, where the heck is this file my folders?
