Hi, i just purchased NWN2 to play online with a friend of mine. Neither of us can host and have the other direct connect to our IP. Idk if it's router firewalls or not having the right open ports or what. I never really configured a firewall before and he doesn't have access to his. Can anyone with experience help me out? Not just give me a link lol. Im kind of computer dumb.

Hi, welcome.
First, configure your router to allow port forwarding to your computer. I realize you don't want just links, but this link takes you to a site that shows you how to configure your specific router and router model for NWN2, with pictures:
portforward.com/english/applications/port_forwarding/Neverwinter_Nights_2/
Now, make Windows (I assume you have windows) allow these ports to be used. Each Windows version is a little different. Read this post that explains things well (I know, another link):

Once ports are open, start NWN2, "Multiplayer", sign in, "New Game", make settings. Notice the default port is 5121. I suggest unchecking "Enforce Legal Characters" and check "One Party". When set, "Next", "New Campaign" (or "New Module" if you're playing a module), choose campaign. Once the game is up and running, save the game (Esc, "Save Game", double click "Empty Slot", name the save). Your buddy can join your game after yours is running (Multiplayer, sign in, "Direct connect", ip address, password). Note the Master Server is down, so, just click "OK". Don't bother posting to the internet.
When continuing a game later, choose "Load Game" to.....load a save.
A great tool by Skywing makes internet games far more stable. Easy to install. Since you're new, I suggest getting connected with vanilla NWN2 first, then install it. Don't be freaked out by all of the things it does and tools it has. Just know that does stuff in the background that will you keep you from having to spend bucks ($) on aspirin:

HAVE MULTIPLE/INDEPENDENT SAVES OF YOUR MULTIPLAYER GAME!
I have played the OC and MotB multiplayer and they work fine, although, they were not meant to be played multiplayer. The hosting PC will carry the game story. SoZ was meant for multiplayer.
One last little thing...
HAVE MULTIPLE/INDEPENDENT SAVES OF YOUR MULTIPLAYER GAME! (just in case you missed it the first time)
Edit:
Ninja'd , but mine takes you to NWN2

the port forwarding program that tests to see if the ports are open keeps coming up negative.... idk what im doing wrong. im following each thing step by step for my ubee router. Do you think if i just shut off my Mcafee and router firewalls that i should be able to host?

Have windows firewall allow the NWN2 Ports, as well as NWN2. Maybe, disable the windows firewall briefly to test.
