I wasn't a fan of expanding the current Mass Effect story until recently. I'm not telling it would be nice to have a game about "Archangel plot" or something like that, but I'm starting to think it would be very nice to expand ME3 events by series of non-heavily-RPG games. What I want to say is that prequels or sequels in MEU are very unlikely. The risk to upset large groups of fans is too high in these cases. But expanding the most intense events of the whole story sounds like a really good idea, don't you think so?

Why do I think new ME games should be less RPG, and utilize just few RPG elements? Without character creation, interactive dialogues, a lot of choices to make, and save import mechanics devs could concentrate much more on creating really immersive atmosphere with truly great story. I think the greatest example of what I'm talking about is The Last of Us game. Just imagine a game similar to The Last of Us, and taking place during the Reaper invasion on Earth. It could be a series of games about some survivors on Earth, Citadel, Omega, or some remote colony.

So, what do you think? Is it a good idea to make ME3 story much larger than it already is?

With the success of TWD game and The Last of Us, expect to see a lot of games about the Alpha male protecting the little girl.

The Last of Us and Uncharted are great games, but they have low replay value and the stories have flaws. Naughty Dog is overhyped imo.

I can't see ME work as a linear game at all.

it could work.BUT remember,Naughty Dog is simply superior to BioWare,so the result won't be as good.I THINK

No, the little things Bioware does/did are more important to me than a full linear, grand story. I could overlook most story flaws in favor of a fun, immersive time in the ME universe.

ME games especially 2 and 3 are not "heavily" RPG. To go even less RPG would be to be a total shooter or 3rd person action.

I'd take a dog fighting game in the same universe. The fighter class ships look like fun.

Of course they do, but they're more 'in your face' in ND games. Like Flynn blowing himself up or Nate taking Elena over Chloe in Uncharted 2. Don't get me started on the Shangri La mutant guardians.

I always frickin hated Elena, even in the first Uncharted.

But why did they kill off Flynn, he was the best character in the series?!:crying:

So you conisder it a flaw when Nate chooses Elena because it's obvious that he loved her since the first game, and them killing Flynn the second antagonist of the Uncharted 2?

Flynn was a friend of Nate, he was one of the best written characters in the series. His death just didn't make sense. Flynn is one of the most narcissistic people in existence, why would he commit suicide? I admit the Chloe/Elena part is just personal opinio, that had nothing to do with writting.

Sacrificing the most ME RPG elements to gain the level of immersion equal to The Last of Us is more then just acceptable, believe me. And with TLoU combat mechanics new ME game would be more like DE:HR, meaning you can fight the enemy directly, or sneak around avoiding combat and striking from behind.

Besides, ME fans would receive more details about the invasion as they wanted to (remember complaints about Earth mission being too short?).

Yeah, but many people don't want to play as a scripted character. Especially since most of us want multiple playable races in ME4.

I have been preaching different genres Mass Effect games for a while, but I still want a sequel, if anything to see Mac's original dream undone

True. Personally, I never thought I would like to play as scripted character after playing ME Trilogy. But that was before I played The Last of Us. This game has incredible immersion level. I've never seen such thing before. TLoU overshadows each and every RPG I've ever played. It feels much more like I'm really participating in game events than even in any part of Mass Effect, no matter the story is linear and character is scripted.

From now I prefer true immersion instead of interactive dialogues and decisions. And to make both in one game with truly high quality... Well, BioWare could try, but I think it's impossible. Such game's production would take a decade or more.

Personally I think the main series should stick with the action RPG setup. That being said it would be exciting if other companies decided to experiment with side games within the ME universe. Imagine if say visceral made a dead space style game were you fight all sorts of crazy reaper creatures or telltale made a walking dead style story focused spinoff.

I'd pay for a game featuring Vega in a DeLorean if it meant seeing the endings undone.

As for scripted characters:  Those actually break immersion for me.  I play games to play a character, not watch a movie where I get to do the shooty parts.  If I want to be a passive observer, I read a book.

Edit:  And this is why I find teh decision to make more 'cinematic" rpgs to be pretty laughable.  How is it immersive to have your own character walking around saying stuff you don't want them to say?

his original dream was to torch the franchise and run

any sequel will undo his dream

I would not mind a survival horror Mass Effect game or even an action bubble tactical shooter in the ME universe as side projects of course.....maybe even developed by subsidiary studios
