I swear sometimes when a person says "romance" other forumers think they mean "hot porno sex."

Some people just like romance. (Obviously a lot of BW loyalists are going to be romance lovers! Not all, of course.) I like romance; I like the way it makes me feel; it makes me warm and happy; I grin and sigh; I think about the characters; I get really into the characters, deep into their pasts and what makes them tick. I love to write romance, and I like reading it (not romance novels or Twilight crap... I like to read GOOD romance, not poorly written crap, lol)

I personally do not want to date a qunari. (Well, I mean, if a guy were really kind and good-looking and had a good job and also liked cats, but happened to be 8 feet tall with horns, I'd probably still go out with him, but it's not a deal breaker.) I do want to experience a fictional romance involving a qunari. It's not going to get me all hot and bothered (though that's no one's business if it does). I just get happy and excited at the thought of a romance involving a qunari guy (and girl, too, but I'm a straight woman, so qunari male is my first choice.)

Everything about the qunari: their look, their culture, their way of speaking, the characters who've represented them (Sten, the Arishok, Maraas), makes them attractive to some fans. That does not make a person a porno-loving sex addict.

I mean there are very bit characters from DA2 whom I'd love to romance, particularly Alain, Lia, Charade, and Athenril. Something about these guys intrigued me, and the romantic in me (and in Alain's case, the fanfic writer in me :P) started spinning stories in my head.

Wanting to romance a qunari, or experience a romance story involving a qunari, is no different, and perfectly fine, and not weird or creepy, and shouldn't require that a person "explain" him/herself. Why can't this just be a thread where we all talk about what such a romance would be like? I mean, aren't we all fans? Isn't that what this forum is for? To get all geeky fandom about stuff?

I think a romance with a male kossith could be interesting. If it was a kossith that followed the Qun, I couldn't see that happening. But someone like "The Iron Bull", someone who makes his own path... I could see a romance with a guy like that. It would be fun to see how the two races could be compatible, both in mind and in physicality.

I kind of envision it as a romance between Hellboy and Liz Sherman.

the qunari is generally pretty cold and distant. I doubt at this point that qunari male or female will be added, but I do hope that if they do include a male kossith LI in the future, he would open up about the way he was raised and how it influences his way of thinking.

I really wish we could, you know? I want to geek out about different qunari romance stuff. But I did that once in another thread about Nathaniel Howe and some forumite told me, "why don't you go name your ****** after him?" Howe's not even qunari, hence no implied fetish. I was just talking about his character and suddenly someone stepped in and said that. It depressed me.

Please, every romance so far has been humans and elves only. You think they're going to break the cycle?

Someone (forgot their name S=) said in another thread awhile ago that a Qunari relationship did not have to lead to sex and I agree. Say a Sten LI allowed you to clean/sharpen his sword. I take ***no*** credit for the idea, but I thought it was the sweetest thing.. It's so poetic; tending to his "soul" would require immense trust. I don't want another Sten, though..

I imagine a Qunari relationship to be like Fran and Balthier, an interspecies pairing, from FF12. Those two are never said to be a couple in-game, but their relationship was so solid. Whatever it was. The way they talked to one another or how one always knew how the other was feeling even though they didn't say a word. They cared a *lot* for eachother and you could feel it without any kissy-huggy stuff. All trust.(= Although, who knows what happened in private lol.

:o They would never have the balls to say that to you in person, either.

Well, so let's geek out about them, shall we

I think ideally this guy would (obviously) be Tal-Vashoth. Although I kind of like the idea of encountering someone like Sten, and opening his eyes to the world around him, convincing him to leave the Qun. (Although of course this would ultimately be his own decision.)

But anyway, if he's Tal-Vashoth, I would hope he's not like the ones from DA2 that fight for no reason, but more like Maraas, a man who is already questioning who he is and what his purpose is. But Maraas seems so sad... it's almost like he hires himsefl out as a mercenary because he doesn't know what else to do with his life. And I suspect he was a warrior in the Qun, too, so what's changed? I think meeting someone like that and helping him to find purpose in life would be such an amazing storyline.

:o Like seriously, the romantic in me just gasped and clutched her heart LOL (, I know, but I can't help it lol) No, really, that's a good image. How touching. That's why I like the Qunari characters we've seen so far. They say a lot without saying much.

I would be in favor of developing trust in your LI and help him opening up more regarding his feeling, but that would be very similar to Fenris. Although the reason I hope for qunari (or any character who has similar qualities) is the sense of protection. Since I always play as a mage, I always want someone is stoic and protective, kinda like a knight in shining armor. Most of the relationships in DA have been more or less equal (or with the PC dominate), I would like for the situation to be reversed for a bit and have the LI protects you instead.

So true. They would not have the balls to say that in person, lol. Good ol' Internet! Gotta love how people can be mouthy. hehe

I'm torn on a backstory for a qunari character. At first, my inclination is Tal-Vashoth too, meaning he abandoned the Qun. But then I got to wondering...

I've always been fascinated by the idea of a "displaced" qunari. A qunari who may have been born into the Qun, but as a very small baby was separated from his people and found/raised elsewhere by, say, Dalish or even humans who happened to find him. He grows up with a wild fascination about where he comes from, but struggles between his curiosity/vested interest in his Qun heritage and his non-Qun upbringing. To throw an even bigger wrench in there, he wants to reconnect with his biological parents, only to return to the Qun to discover that they do not actually have a family structure. This causes him inner conflict and even, say, major culture shock. In the end, he's torn because he is unsure who his true "people" actually are. (His adoptive family or the Qun?)

It would make for good "choices". Your protag (through personal quests and dialogue) pushes him into either one direction or the other.

LOL motomotogirl. You aren't alone. I actually did gasp when I first read it and got asked what was wrong lol. I wish I had the original because s/he wrote it much more eloquently than me.

Omg, and if Maraas comes back he MUST have the same voice actor lol.

Aghgh This is lovely, and heartbreaking. Ah, it sort of reminds me of Sebastian's dilemma, to remain with the Chantry or return to Starkhaven. I guess as a LI, the only option would be to convince him to not return to the Qun. Also I'm a little amused by the image of this immense qunari young guy amidst his tiny Dalish family LOL Too cute.

 Not gonna lie; I gots a major crush on Maraas  For such a tiny amount of time he was on screen, he (and his great VA) sure made the most of it. A character who really left an impression on me, but then, so did Sten and the Arishok. Hell, even poor dead Ashaad. "Kotajin" also was interesting, but his dedication to the Qun just made me very, very sad inside.

I would be fine with a companion tbh . . . but a romance would be interesting.

Not really related but I want a former Tevinter Magister companion, it would be very intriguing if they turned back from their former practice and we had a choice either to influence them to go back to being a power-hungry blood mage or a reformed one who uses magic "responsibly"

I would love to see Maraas show up as a companion. Would love it!

Although, I'm not interested in a Romance w/a Qunari. I'm more interested in a great Bromance w/ a Kossith companion. And Maraas would be perfect. Lol!

Why do I think that Maraas would get into SUCH trouble  And then play the total innocent... put on his stoic Tal-Vashoth face. "I'm sorry, human. I did not know drinking copious amount of mead and running through the streets of your city naked was considered incorrect in your culture."

I know, right? It would be like a "fish out of water" sort of scenario. Now that you mention it, it actually *does* kind of remind me of Sebastian's conflict! (You know, also, the story of Star Trek's "Worf" was what kind of crept into my mind as I thought of a displaced qunari.)

I also wondered if by removing a qunari from the Qun as a baby, the player could see what behavioral traits are learned vs. what behavioral traits are genetically predisposed to that specific race! :D

Everytime I ever played through DA2 I always tried to recruit Maraas. I was always so disappointed that he would not join up. He seemed like such an intriguing character. Oh and yes... the voice actor... :::gushes::: <3
