This month's challenge is "Lost and Forgotten":

Lost cities, lands, and societies, Dead Gods and Vestiges of lost faiths, dangerous ruins and ancient treasures, cursed or degenrate races, creatures long thought extinct in civilized lands.

This theme was suggested by Carcerian.

Guidelines:
  • It must be fully working in game.
  • Use of vanilla NWN or publicly available texture is fine, though state-of-the-art amateur's work would require 100% original work, but that's up to you.
  • Teamwork is welcome.
  • Beginners most welcome, don't be afraid, just try, you'll be surprised!
  • All submissions must be finished, working, and emailed to NWNCCCMakers@gmail.com (or a non-Vault link provided) by August 1st 8th, 2013 at 10 AM EST. Sooner than that is perfectly fine too. ;-)

Somethings you could include in the download/email that would make packaging everything up easier and faster:
  • 2da lines needed.
  • Screenshot *from in game* for use on the vault page (this also gives me hints on how to display the new goodie).
  • Portraits (if needed) of your new goodie. ** Placeables and monsters should include a portrait. **
  • Inventory icons (if needed) of your new goodie.
  • Any credits you would like listed.
  • If this is your first entry, please tell me what name you would like your work listed under and provide a link to your other NWN content if you want that displayed as well (the link bit is totally optional).
  • Also if you would like an invite to the CC Makers group, send Rolo Kipp a friend invite. The group is nothing spectacular, mostly just documentation on 2da lines.
  • If you are doing tileset content, *please* let me know ahead of time so I can get you the set and itp files to work with. I’m horrible at merging those so this bit you will need to provide.
Remember, the Challenge is all about fun, sharing, creativity and surprise!

If you have concerns/questions about this month’s Challenge please post in this thread.

If you want to discuss the Monthly Custom Content Challenge idea as a whole or wish to submit ideas/themes for future monthly Challenges, please post in its thread here.
***When submitting a new theme, please provide a title and short summary of the theme.***

If you have a technical question about some custom content creation, please create a separate thread so that the answers can be found later by anyone, not just people interested in this Challenge. We'll try to help!

Have no fear and join the fun!

And finally, you can:

Submit theme suggestions.
Vote for August's theme.
Email content to: NWNCCCMakers@gmail.com

Nothing "new" springs to mind right away as far as custom models/artwork for me, so this month I'm going to be doing a little prefab village called Morsomni (from the latin words mors (death) and somnium (dream)).

The village is populated by townsfolk turned into undead skeletons hundreds of years ago by a curse that has long since been forgotten.  The magic keeps the villagers oblivious to their condition, and they do not notice the passage of time beyond a year (and the changing of the seasons).

The skeletons are pleasant enough, but they refuse to believe anything is wrong with their village if told.

The rest of the world has long since forgotten about the little village out in the middle of nowhere.

For those searching for ideas:

Placeable stone tablets with arcane script on them (The "Thorass" font would fit on a stone tablet to use as one of the "Words of power" found in the OC)

With all of the creatures getting facelifts, the Big Bad Evils from the NWN OC now look very out of place (e.g. Haedraline and Morag)

The DLA designed lizardfolk are well done, but feature battered up gear.. the "Old Ones" are supposed to be an advanced race of sorts. Some variants of those Lizardfolk with shinier/fancier equipment?

Same goes for the Yuan-ti: A rework/remodel of the humanoid yuan-ti and some male variants as well..

Placeables for ancient traps..

New appearances for ancient golem guardians.

Ancient elven goodies (ala Myth Drannor or Illefarn)

Has anybody made a fey'ri tomb yet? Like a big 4 tile group with a big deep pit in it, with openable lid/or exploding lid animation on open?

Edit:

So while I am asking this question, I'm trying to find the dnd art that goes with this concept. I don't remember which tome it was in, or if it was a book cover. Seems like it came out around the time book 3 of Last Mythal was released. The story or tome had information about the fey'ri being released from the vault, supposedly like 1000 miles deep, or something along those lines. Anybody know this stuff, where I can find it, and most specifically, have the image link for the top of this vault. Its possible its my imagination, but it really seems like there's a picture of it somewhere.

Hiyaa!! Ruins!!
I like very much this month challenge! One of my eternally unfinished modules is placed in the fabled city of Myth Drannor, and I hope it will be finished someday:
http://social.biowar.../albums/1329736

The ancient ruins and such things are one of the classic themes of Sword&Sorcery...

Hi, Fester Pot! My Myth Drannor exterior areas are a bunch of things; two modified tilesets, multiple placeables, area lights, etc. My idea is to finish the module before of release anything (I don`t want to ruin the atmosphere). Now I am working in my free time in an underdark mod, but maybe in a couple of months I can finish my work in Myth Drannor (at last!) and release all of it, (the module, haks, etc.)

Ssythilac, could you write a short tutorial on lighting areas, if you've got some time? What makes your areas look so good apart from the tilesets with extra textures and the placeables is the way you light your areas. There must be some tricks you could teach us.;)

I'll second what Zwerk said. The lighting is exquisite, and would love tips on how you managed it.

Hi Zwerkules, glad to hear from you! Posted Image

I totally agree to the fact that the use of lights is almost the most important thing to create atmosphere in a module. My use of the lights is nearly instinctive, but here are a few tips:

The most important thing is to take care of nearly all lights one of one tile. Use and proof with the first tile light or with the second. In most ocasions, the general area atmosphere is all of you need combinate with the second light of the tile. This is a subtle use of the tilelight Posted Image

A placeable I totally love in this theme of the lights is a "natural fog" that reacts with the light. Experiment with it and you will not regret:

http://nwvault.ign.c....Detail&id=2101

And finally, a trick: one of the best focal illumination in game are the "torch light". I mean the light emitters a npc with a torch or a light object, like a magic ring. Simply create a virtual npc (invisible one), equip him with a light ring or something and, with a script "kill" him and leave his corpse. The light dures forever.

I hope that helps!

I believe this is the same as the light effect you can apply via script. I particularly like using VFX lights. Your trick is an interesting way of going about it though. I'll have to experiment and see if there is any difference in appearance.

And again. BEAUTIFUL work. Love it. I want it. :)

A very interesting point, henesua! I`ll try the script method and see. And be sure that when I finish the module I´ll release all of the hak goodies that comes with it.. ;)

Ok, y'all. Multiple people voted for this theme, and I see only one "I'm gonna make this..." post...and it's mine.

One week left, folks. Stuff for this one is due in August 8th.

Nice wall pieces, Vibrant Penumbra.

Really liking that block texture, and the odd shape of the pieces works well.

One minor suggestion: Perhaps tessellate the wall sections a little bit? It would add to the poly count slightly, but would be worth it to be able to roughen and/or round some of the edges a little so that they look more worn down by weathering.
