I think refuelling is a really stupid idea, and odd considering they dumbed down lots of gameplay features, yet made space travel more complex.
Did the OP ask for your opinion on refueling? No. They asked a simple question. If you don't have anything constructive to say, keep it to yourself.

Nothing has been dumbed down. They trimmed and removed the uncessary.baardhimself wrote...

If we run out of credits, minerals AND fuel, what happens then? Do we play Quezar until we got enough credits?

"Dumbed down" is just an euphanism for streamlining. It just has negative connotations, it still means the same thing.ItsFreakinJesus wrote...

They did dumb down the gameplay, doesn't mean it will be bad but after playing Dragon Age and it seems like each class will have one playstyle and it will be incredibly hard to have any meaningful development in any direction other than the game wants you to. (Eg in DA:O you can make a mage that just buffs/debuffs or as a damage dealer but in mass effect you will play a class the way you're meant to and play another one to experience any variety)

If anything, shooting will become harder for a lot of people since they don't have the crutch of having a game give them 100% accuracy.

Isn't there also a mini game to scan for fuel and or resources on planets? Or is refuelling limited to stations only?
When you pick up resources from a planet, you can use those resources to research and create upgrades for you equipment, your squadmates, and the Normandy itself.
If you are stuck out in the wilderness, and run out of fuel, you'll have to use those resources to refuel the ship, which obviously is a waste.

The devs opted to call it the mechanism, designed to prevent you reaching the entire galaxy until you'd upgraded somewhat, "fuel" simply so people less familiar with the lore could grasp the concept.
