While I would perfer mostly new faces, I was just thinking that Shale is my favorite of all companions so far and I would fracken love to have her as a companion again. :D Either in this game or future games.

I know she could be killed in Origins but, seeing as how Bioware has no problems bringing whomever they want back to life, Shale is made of fracking immortal rock anyway. And as for never being activated, a lot can happen in 10 years.

What do you think? Also, if the devs were going to do this would you perfer golem Shale or a newly restored dwarf Shale? I would personally perfer she stayed a golem forever.

I'm not sure shale would get involved with humans and their wars... she's friendly only with a few people and at least 1 of those died  (canon) and the other 3 are from Ferelden. Game's most likely going to be taking place near or in Orlais so I doubt it... but it would be a nice to have some old companions back.

Sigrun
Valenna
Morrigan
Leliana
Shale
Sten
Alistair

^ these could be made into temporary companions for 1 or 2 quests but I doubt BioWare would even bother with that since somehow they just keep disconnecting the world consistency a lot from the previous games by choice of design. (poor choice if you ask me)

No, I don't think any previous companions should return as companions again. There will inevitably be comparisons, complaints on how they've changed and are therefore ruined, etc.

Not to mention Shale could be not recruited/dead, so why would they bother spending resources on a character not everyone may have? Shale could end up like Ashley in ME3, stuck in a room with nothing to say.

Please no. You said it yourself, she could be killed, not activated, told to go away, and wasn't there some epilogue where she went to travel with Wynne or something like that? A short cameo would be nice but giving her an important role doesn't sound good.

I also said Gaider doesn't care, she's made of rock, and that a lot can happen in 10 years.

And she already did travel with Wynne, they made a book about it.

And you're enabling that? People should go against retcons, not support them.

She was made of rock but so were the other golems we fought in the deep roads, they're dead.

Yes, a lot can happen, including the Warden taking the activation rod and walking into the eluvian with Morrigan without activating Shale, what now?

I missed the books though, might have to read those some time

But  events from book happened only if your choices fits to that choices in book like Wynne alive or Shale  one of devs said if they were different this events from books/comics  they never happened or or were different.

I don't like having things ruined for me just because a minority killed Shale or because some people didn't buy the DLC. Perhaps if they're done too much, but then again, I want Shale as a companion more than I care about that. Furthermore, Dragon Age Origins, unlike Mass Effect, was not planned to have a sequel to import to in the first place, so of course lots of things like that get in the way.

The warden throwing it away instead of carrying it around for a year?

I think if anything we'll at least have a cameo. I mean, yes though it was just in the book, she did help the plot line of what might come to play in Inquisition.

No, there have been enough complaints about Morrigan and Varric when they were shown in the cinematic trailer and I think that is enough characters returning from previous games. I don't want to spend the first six months (or even longer) after the game is released reading about how unfaithful the companion is compared to how they were developed in previous games for I don't want this to turn into what happened with Mass Effect 3.

Mass Effect 3 is a good game.

And characters from previous games shouldn't be restricted from appearing again just because random people on the internet will complain about them no matter what.

Sorry I should have been more clear, I don't want the companion cameos to feel like they did with Mass Effect 3.  All the non-party member cameos felt very shallow and to me it was because they had to animate and voice another character to take the roll of a character that could have died so the limited duration they appeared was because they had to make sure they had a duplicate character available.

Cameo is okay, but I really don't want a repeat of Anders.

Meh, I didn't really like him all that much in the first place.

There has only been one sequel. A single instance does not denote a pattern, at all. That's assuming you even buy into the idea that DA2 was not consistent with DAO (which I don't).

Shale is the only past companion I'd really like to see return as a party member (as a golem).

But I'd be more than happy with a lengthy cameo. She was there when it hit the fan, so to speak, so it's not hard to imagine her being somewhere in the vicinity of DA3's troubles.

If she does come back, though, David has to write her.

Didn't she already return to dwarven form, as hinted at (sorry) implied heavily in her DA:O epilogue.

(Book canon is not game canon; Gaider said that. Except that somehow it is, because "Asunder" seems to play a big part in "Inquisition"...)

Personally, I'm not happy with NPCs/companions returning from older games. Like zombies, they have the tendency to... have changed... (shudders)

I never really cared for Shale, but I guess if she returned in her true form, that would be interesting.

Only if the warden dies, and it's vague about when or how.
